Ride over to Dave's house on President's Day morning for a ride. We headed down Pomerado Rd and over the freeway, taking BVP all the way to Citrus Ave. I pushed it pretty hard on the little climbing section of BVP, gaining some separation from Dave. We stayed together for awhile, on El Norte Pkwy and Broadway, as well as the early part of Jesmond Dene Rd. I again pushed the pace on a couple of the climbing sections, the first and last ones in particular. We then headed over to ??, taking it downhill to Buena Creek Rd. I really like this road. It has a couple of small climbs, then a great 2.5 mile downhill section through a nicely wooded area. Turned left on Santa Fe Rd, which turns into Mission Rd. There are a couple of small climbs here, nothing you can't power through. Just past Las Posas Rd, Dave had a flat, so we stopped to fix it. Then we took Mission Rd all the way to Centre City Pkwy. Back to Dave's house the usual way. The wind was working in our favor, particularly on Pomerado Rd, where I felt like I was getting pushed in the back. Back home from Dave's house the normal way. My legs were tired at the end but not sore.

2-20-2011 Ride
Ride on a Sunday afternoon with Dave and Jim, from Dave's house. It was raining in the morning, so we did the time trial route in the afternoon. The day was nice, temperature in the 60s, although the wind was something to contend with during the ride. It was basically at our backs all the way to Poway Rd, which allowed Dave and me to push a fast pace up to that point. Things slowed down significantly on Poway Rd, where we traded leads in a loose pace line. The wind didn't seem too bad on the Sabre Springs Pkwy section and helped on Ted Williams Pkwy. After the turn onto Pomerado Rd, I was tiring out, and the wind was working against us. So my final part of the ride wasn't too fast. Finished in 54:30, an okay time.

2-12-2011 Ride
Ride from home with John and Dave. It was a little chilly at the start, and I couldn't get my front derailleur to shift down into my lower chainring. I ended up doing the whole ride in the upper chainring, although I fixed the shifting problem about midway through the ride. Headed through the neighborhood over to RB Rd, then to Camino del Sur and over to San Dieguito Rd, which we took downhill. When we first got up to RB Rd and started riding into 4S Ranch, it had to be about 10 deg warmer. It was weird. When we got down into the flats below Rancho Santa Fe, it was really chilly again. Turned on El Camino Real and headed over toward Del Mar. The climb on this road was a little tough, as I stayed in my upper chainring and ended up standing on the pedals for much of it. At the top of the hill, I fixed the shifter. Headed down El Camino Real and onto the 56 bike trail, which we took, complete with the usual detour, back to Camino del Sur. On this road, I again pushed out hard on the uphill section before the turn onto Carmel Valley Rd, separating from the others. After recovering, I felt pretty good on the gradual uphill climb here, finishing pretty strong. After the downhill, turned left on Dove Canyon Rd, then a right onto Camino San Bernardo after the short climb (another hard push). We turned right on Camino del Norte, then headed back home on a route that took us by work. It was a fun ride, pretty fast for the route.

2-6-2011 Ride
Ride over to Dave's for the time trial loop, with just him. From the start, he was setting a pretty fast pace, and we kept it going, riding together and trading leads all the way to the base of the climb up to Poway Rd. I put some time on him here, then we continued down Poway Rd, again trading leads and setting a pretty fast pace. We stayed together until the turn at Sabre Springs Pkwy. Dave was really riding fast on the first little climbing section, so I hung on his wheel until he tired out, then I led out a put a little more time on him. From this point, we rode together, although I would get out in the lead on the climbing sections and he would catch up on the downhills. Finished in 51:46, a pretty good time, although I don't think I could have ridden much faster on this day.

2-5-2011 Ride
Ride from home over to Dave's house, where we headed up Pomerado Rd to Scripps-Poway Pkwy. On the Pomerado section, as well as the first part of the next climb, Dave stayed with me, but he couldn't sustain it, and I pulled away. I waited for him at the top of the climb, then we rode together to the big climb, where I outpaced him (but not by a whole lot). Headed north on the 67, and I was feeling strong, able to keep a steady cadence on the climbs in this section. The downhill into Ramona was fast and fun, then we looped around an through downtown before heading back via Highland Valley Rd. I turned my pace down a little at this point, and we stayed together for the most part until the latter part of the climb to the summit on this road. The ride down was fast, and the weather was really nice here. After getting to the flats, I was starting to be tired. The ride back up Pomerado Rd was slow initially, but I felt a little better toward the end, with enough to put in a burst of energy near the finish to his house. All in all, this was a good ride for me, and I felt good throughout and afterward.

2-3-2011 Ride
Solo ride during lunch from work, taking the extended loop. The wind had scaled back a lot from the previous day, coming more from the northeast. It was still a little cool at the start, but I warmed up fairly quickly. I was able to keep a fast pace all the way up Pomerado Rd, passing a small group of riders and dusting them. Stayed fast down to Poway Rd., and even on the return I made good time, with the exception of near the end. I kept up a steady pace going up Camino del Norte, keeping a good tempo particularly on the second section. Finished fast to keep my average speed up. Again, felt great at the end, no real tiredness or soreness.

2-2-2011 Ride
Solo ride during lunch, leaving from work. Took the short loop. It was cool at the start and pretty breezy, with the wind coming from the east. The ride up Pomerado was tough by the crosswind, which occasionally was more of a headwind. On the climb up Camino del Norte, the wind was at my back and I made decent time. Finished feeling good, with really no tiredness or soreness at the end.
