Woke up after a somewhat fitful night's sleep with vivid dreams. I packed my pedals, wrenches, and bike lock in a plastic bag to take. Also took my back tire off and applied a patch to the inside where the screw went all the way through. We'll see if it holds up. Then I got ready for a bike ride with John, heading over to his place the normal way. I initially made decent time but slowed down on the last climb up to his place. I was a little early, so I did a short loop around his neighborhood before arriving. Jayden and Vivian were out to see us off, and we headed up to the top of Pomerado Rd, turning right on Spring Canyon Rd and climbing a little more before turning left onto Sunset Ridge Dr. Took this to Scripps Lake Dr and turned right, taking it down to the entrance to Lake Miramar. This stretch was up and down, never flat. We rode two loops around the lake, heading clockwise. I initially rode behind John through the more winding parts of the path around the dam, until it widened up, then I rode ahead. Set a PR (17:41, 142 W, 124 bpm) for the reverse loop of Lake Miramar the first time around, and I was perhaps a little faster on the second lap, but I stopped short by the parking lot and waited for John. We rode back following our outbound route until after the turn onto Spring Canyon Rd. Made a left turn on Blue Cypress Dr, took that fun little descent, then climbed back to the top of Angelique St on Cypress Canyon Rd. Then it was back to his place the normal way.

I didn't stay for smoothies this time, headed home to get ready for the trip following the usual route using W Bernardo Dr. Some time to relax, I kept gathering stuff for the trip according to my airplane travel list. A lot of stuff for the bike rides. Did my volunteer shift at the hospital, nothing special to note. It was busy at the beginning and end, time seemed to pass more quickly. I talked to Melissa about her family trip to Japan, which was very different from ours. Headed home, talked to Mom briefly after I got there, then chatted longer with Ben about his trip. The rest of the evening was low-key, finishing up gathering my things for the trip. I gave the kitchen an extra cleaning as well. In bed and asleep easily.
