06-30-2022 Ride

Afternoon ride after work with Blair and Liz.  I also rode my bike into work, after getting off a plane late the previous evening and arriving home at midnight.  Wasn't sure how I would do, since I'd been off a bike (other than the casual Divvy bike ride in Chicago) for a while.  I had also noticed the upper on my bike shoes separating from the sole, so we ended up starting the ride by heading to my house so I could switch shoes.  From there, back to W Bernardo Dr, heading to Pomerado Rd for the gradual climb back into RB.  I was feeling okay, generally leading but not getting too out in front.  I decided we would follow the time trial route once we got to RB Rd, and that's what we did.  Decent pace throughout the ride, and the temperature was almost ideal, just a little warm.  Back to the starting point from the back parking lot, and from there I rode home to finish off the route.

06-16-2022 Virtual Ride

Kickr ride in the morning before heading to Houston in the afternoon to see Mom.  This was a low-impact workout, with periodic pushes at higher wattage output, but even the higher-output sections weren't too strenuous.  I like this idea, but I need to figure out how to change the watt baseline and high-intensity zones.

Total time = 49:29
Total mileage = 27.0 mi
Weighted average wattage = 122 W

06-15-2022 Ride

After-work ride with Blair and Justin.  Headed out Bernardo Center Dr to Carmel Valley Rd, taking it up to Black Mountain Rd and turning left to get over to the 56 bike trail.  Down to Camino del Sur, where we turned and headed back to Paseo del Sur, riding through that neighborhood and continuing across to ride through the 4S Ranch neighborhood before getting to RB Rd and then back to the starting point.  Justin was riding stronger, he's been putting in some miles to build his cycling fitness and it shows.

Avg speed = 15.9 mph. Total mileage = 17.8 mi
Total elevation gain = 1100'

06/11/2022 Ride

Ride on a Saturday morning with Zvika Cohen and Dror Reginiano, accompanying Dror's normal cycling group.  These were guys mostly around Dror's age but all good riders, no laggards in this bunch.  We met up by a little series of shops in Yehud, then headed up the 461 to Hwy 40.  Followed this road until the turnoff around Ginaton to head up to Modiin, at which point the riding intensity level kicked up.  I remembered that this was a gradual uphill for quite a while, and I wasn't mistaken.  Everybody pretty much stayed together, which was impressive given the grade and length of the climb.  Past Modiin, we turned right and the turns came more frequently, as we rode, generally downhill, through suburban neighborhoods.  Really nice riding and country.  There were a couple of kicker hills where the good riders separated themselves from the others, and I was one of the others here.  Eventually we ended up in Latrun, on a road I knew pretty well, taking a flat to slightly downhill stretch at really scorching pace.  It was all I could do to hang on to the end of the group until we came to a small climb, where I caught back up and passed a couple of the riders.  Then, it was another long, gradual downhill where the group was going flat out and staying together, riding in a double pace line.  I had a turn at the front, but I couldn't last too long before handing it over to the next rider.  Back to Hwy 40, which we took to the starting point and finished with coffee at the end.  That was an intense pace for me, but I hung on okay.

Avg speed = 17.6 mph. Total mileage = 40.7 mi
Total elevation gain = 1510'
Avg heartrate = 142 bpm (!)

06-10-2022 Ride

Ride on a Friday morning, while visiting Israel, with Oren using a bike I borrowed from Zvika.  I met him at the old starting location, the parking lot near his home.  We rode the normal way over to Hwy 4, then headed north, taking a moderate but not scorching pace.  At some point, we turned to head inland, following roads I had mostly ridden before.  A little before halfway through the planned distance, we stopped for a coffee break, and the rest was a welcome one.  The overall route I thought we were going to ride got shortened, which was fine with me.  We ended up taking a more circuitous path back through industrial Netanya to add a mile or two at the end.  Weather was warm and muggy but we got a fairly early start, so it wasn't too bad.  Good to ride again with Oren.

06-04-2022 Ride

Writing this post long after the ride itself.  Was probably a solo ride, starting out by heading through the neighborhood to RB Rd and then through the 4S Ranch neighborhood, staying on Paseo del Sur to get to Camino del Sur.  Down to Carmel Valley Rd, turning right and taking it to get to the 56 bike path.  Took it up to Rancho Penasquitos Rd, turning right and staying on Poway Rd until getting onto Garden Rd.  Over to Sycamore Canyon Rd, turning right and taking this short, steep little route to get over to Scripps-Poway Pkwy.  Then it was down to Pomerado Rd, where I turned right and took it all the way to RB Rd.  Back up to Matinal Rd, then through the neighborhood until I got to Duenda Rd, turning right there and then left onto Corazon Pl to try and get up to a 40 mile total.  Home via Pajaro Way and Aguamiel Rd.

Avg speed = 16.4 mph. Total mileage = 40.1 mi
Total elevation gain = 2470'
Avg heartrate = 131 bpm
