Ride on a Saturday morning with Zvika Cohen and Dror Reginiano, accompanying Dror's normal cycling group. These were guys mostly around Dror's age but all good riders, no laggards in this bunch. We met up by a little series of shops in Yehud, then headed up the 461 to Hwy 40. Followed this road until the turnoff around Ginaton to head up to Modiin, at which point the riding intensity level kicked up. I remembered that this was a gradual uphill for quite a while, and I wasn't mistaken. Everybody pretty much stayed together, which was impressive given the grade and length of the climb. Past Modiin, we turned right and the turns came more frequently, as we rode, generally downhill, through suburban neighborhoods. Really nice riding and country. There were a couple of kicker hills where the good riders separated themselves from the others, and I was one of the others here. Eventually we ended up in Latrun, on a road I knew pretty well, taking a flat to slightly downhill stretch at really scorching pace. It was all I could do to hang on to the end of the group until we came to a small climb, where I caught back up and passed a couple of the riders. Then, it was another long, gradual downhill where the group was going flat out and staying together, riding in a double pace line. I had a turn at the front, but I couldn't last too long before handing it over to the next rider. Back to Hwy 40, which we took to the starting point and finished with coffee at the end. That was an intense pace for me, but I hung on okay.
