Solo ride from church, right after church, heading over Broadway to Mission Rd and turning left. I was riding into the wind here, and it was a challenge. Headed out to Pico Ave and used it to get over to Richmar Ave and onto Twin Oaks Valley Pkwy. This is a generally uphill route, with the steeper section at the end, and I was still riding into a wind coming from the northwest. Then I headed down Champagne Blvd, slowed down by the headwind. On the flats here, I got my tire in a groove and had a momentary flash of crashing but got out of it. Rode over to Old Castle Rd and took this inland. The climb here was tough. My legs were tired from the previous day. I kept my pace above 10 mph on the first U section but conked out and slowed down on this second section of the climb. As it leveled out later, I got a little faster, but it was definitely warm and I was feeling it. This climb had a long gradual section at the end that is a challenge. Then there is a short downhill section followed by another gradual uphill after it connects with Lilac Rd. On this second climb, I kept it above 10 mph, but it wore me out. I should have had some more energy food before or during this ride. At Valley Center Rd, I turned left and should have had some benefit from a tailwind, but the road conditions here are absolutely horrible, and my legs were not cooperating. I turned on Lake Wohlford Rd and finished the climb up by Valley View Casino, heading over to Woods Valley Rd and back east. Even though it was downhill, it was really windy, and I was struggling to keep up any pedaling cadence. But I needed to, because the wind was stiff enough to keep the downhill from maintaining my pace. I made it to Valley Center Rd and took this downhill, which was fast at the beginning but very slow at the bottom due to the wind in my face. This section over to BVP was another struggle, then things were a little better on BVP. My pace wasn't great, but I could keep things going steady. Took it all the way to Del Lago Blvd, where I turned right and then took a U-turn at the light. Over the bridge, my pace was okay but the wind was again working against me. I was slow up the last two climbs and surely glad to be done with this ride. My cardio was fine on this ride, but my legs were worn out.
