Solo ride in the morning over to church, taking the longer yoga route. I knew I was going to ride hard with Andy, so I left early and took a leisurely pace, not really pushing it. Made it over there in about 40 min. I waited awhile, then Andy showed up. We decided to ride out the 78 to Bandy Canyon Rd and take on part of Highland Valley Rd. Headed out Juniper St to 17th St, stretching it out on this short, steep climb. On the flats, Andy was really strong, that must be his triathlete conditioning. We headed out the 78 to San Pasqual Rd, heading over to Old Milky Way. I was working hard on the flat sections to keep up with him. I could gain back some distance when the road tilted up, even a little. Out to Bandy Canyon Rd, riding together at a good clip. On the climb up, we rode together. He was out a little bit in front, but I had a little kick left at the end. We headed over to Highland Valley Rd and up to the top, past Eagle's Crest Rd at the normal resting spot. I felt okay on the climbs, just slow but still fast enough to lead out on the steeper sections. On the downhill riding back, I was really careful, since it was the first time I had come down this road since I crashed in August of 2012. All went fine, and I was taking the turns pretty well, keeping my weight back and leaning in a little bit. We headed over to Pomerado Rd, then over the freeway to BVP. Andy really let it out crossing the freeway, and I was working hard to hang on his wheel. Back to Sunset Dr, then Juniper St back to the church. Then I headed home the short way via Centre City Pkwy, riding steady but not really driving a hard pace. Good strength left for the last two little climbs, and my legs felt just fine at the end. I think I gave my cardio a bigger workout than my legs on this ride.
