01-30-2016 Run

Run on a Saturday morning while staying at the David Intercontinental Hotel in Tel Aviv.  I didn't get much sleep the previous night, so I wanted to have an active day to wear me out.  Headed north on the sidewalk path that generally follows the beach, up past all of the hotels and beyond, going a little over 2.5 mi up before turning around by a parking lot.  There were a lot of joggers out, which make it a little nicer to run.  Decent, not scorching pace throughout on this very flat course.

01-24-2016 Ride

Solo ride on a Sunday afternoon from home over to church, riding on the freeway to BVP and up to Sunset Dr.  I took it over to Escondido Blvd, riding up to 9th Ave and taking a left to get to Maple St.  Up to 3rd Ave, then to church via Broadway.  I met up with Joe, and we headed up to Juniper St via 4th Ave.  Back to Sunset Dr and then down to BVP, riding to San Pasqual Rd and then into the valley.  We rode to Old Milky Way to get to the 78, taking it to Bandy Canyon Rd.  The wind was coming generally from the northwest, so it was fine until we turned west and rode up toward Highland Valley Rd.  The climb was tough as always.  I got to the top and then rode down to where Joe was to ride up the last stretch again.  We took Highland Valley Rd back to Pomerado Rd, then across the freeway to BVP.  Back again to Sunset Dr. Joe was slowing down on the uphills, so I dialed my speed back as well.  To Juniper St and then back to church the normal way.  I headed to Centre City Pkwy via 5th Ave, then home the normal way.  I made pretty good time, probably benefiting from something of a tailwind for most of it.  It was a good workout, longer than I would have gone without Joe's invitation.

01-23-2016 Ride

Solo ride initially, early on a foggy, dark morning.  I had both lights on and kept my speed down because it was really hard to see the road for the first 30 min or so.  Over the pedestrian bridge by Lake Hodges.  On the opposite side, the trail was overrun with sand in a couple of areas, so that was tricky and slow to get through.  Over to BVP and then up to Sunset Dr, taking it to Jupiter St.  Up to Washington St and then to Broadway to get to Mission Ave.  Rode down to Quince St and then took it south to 13th St and over to Centre City Pkwy.  To Felicita Rd and then to Redwood St to get over to Dave's house on Alexander Dr, where I met up with him and John.  We headed on Montview Dr back to Centre City Pkwy and then headed north.  I kept my pace at the same level as theirs all the way out to Country Club Ln, where I made some separation because of the incline.  Out to Deer Springs Pkwy, where I rode uphill a little while waiting for them to make the turn.  Down to Twin Oaks Valley Pkwy and over to Buena Creek Rd.  I pushed the pace up this slight climb and then somewhat on the downhill section to Santa Fe Ave.  I stayed with the others until the last little climb by Rancho Santa Fe Rd.  We reconnected, and our pace was generally the same, although occasionally I would get out ahead when I was in front.  Back into Escondido via Mission Rd, with me and John pushing a hard pace on the section before the freeway underpass.  To Centre City Pkwy and then back to Felicita Rd, taking it to Citracado Pkwy.  Back to the feeder road on the west side of Centre City Pkwy and to Dave's house via Brotherton Rd.  Some kind of tasty green smoothies at the end of this ride, then I headed home, initially taking the normal route but staying on W Bernardo Pkwy until turning onto Duenda Rd and heading home the standard way from there.

01-21-2016 Run

Posted long after this run.  It was a run over lunchtime at work, where I headed over to W Bernardo Dr and then ran to Bernardo Center Dr.  Down to Camino del Norte and then over to Camino San Bernardo to get to RB Rd.  Then it was back to the site using Via del Campo.

01-18-2016 Ride

Solo ride on MLK Birthday holiday.  Rode through the neighborhood to RB Rd, taking it to Dove Canyon Rd.  Down to Carmel Valley Rd, riding up from there to Black Mountain Rd.  I took this road down to Mira Mesa Blvd and turned right, going to Camino Ruiz and then over to Calle Cristobal.  Down Sorrento Valley Blvd, including the downhill section, and then turning right on Sorrento Valley Rd.  I hadn't been on this route in a long time, and I rode over to Carmel Valley Rd.  Then back to the 56 bike trail via El Camino Real.  I rode up to Carmel Country Rd and then turned right on Carmel Canyon Rd.  To Del Mar Heights Rd and over to Carmel Valley Rd, taking it to Camino del Sur.  Back up to Paseo del Sur, riding over to Potomac Ridge Rd and then Nighthawk Ln to Camino San Bernardo.  I was slower on this section, not really interested in riding fast by this time.  Back to RB Rd, taking it down to W Bernardo Dr and then home the normal way.

01-16-2016 Hike

Posted long after this hike.  Hiked around the Piedras Pintadas trail in RB with Ann and the church hiking group.  See map for details.

01-16-2016 Ride

Ride in the morning with John, keeping the distance down because I had to meet Ann to go hiking with the Third Saturday group on the Piedras Pintadas trail in RB.  We headed over to Pomerado Rd via W Bernardo Dr to RB Rd.  Then we took it up to Ted Williams Pkwy, riding over to the 56 bike trail and taking it all the way down to just before it goes into the neighborhood.  We turned and went up this steep little section, which connects with Old Carmel Valley Rd, taking us over to Del Mar Heights Rd.  To Carmel Valley Rd, riding it over to Camino del Sur.  We took this road back to RB Rd and then home via W Bernardo Dr.  John kept up a pretty good pace throughout, and I was okay riding at that pace and not pushing it.

01-12-2016 Run

Solo run over lunch at work. Leaving from the normal entrance door and running the normal rectangular route in clockwise direction.  I generally felt good on the run, not pushing the pace much or really having the fitness to do so but still maintaining a reasonably good speed.  My legs weren't sore on the following day, which indicates that my running muscles are starting to be used to being exercised.

01-08-2016 Run

Run in the morning while spending a long weekend in Las Vegas to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary.  See map for the route, but I basically ran around a long block, after trying to run through a nearby park and not finding any suitable trails for running.  It had been quite awhile since I'd run, so my pace was off and I kept the distance down.  Route was very flat.

01-03-2015 Ride

Ride with John on the time trial route.  I was sore from playing broom ball the previous night and the long ride in the morning. So I rode at about the same pace as John on the flats,  getting out ahead of him on the climbs but not able to stay with him on the last fast stretch on W Bernardo Dr.  Legs felt really tired,  so it was a workout for me.  Finished in 1:03:50.

01-02-2016 Ride

Solo ride initially over to Joe's house, taking the pedestrian bridge over to BVP and then up to Sunset Dr.  This section was finger-numbing cold, but it started to warm up around the 5-mile mark.  I got to the turn onto Juniper St and realized that I hadn't started my route-mapping.  Over to Washington St and then to Broadway.  Through town and up Village to Joe's place.  We headed out Country Club Ln to Borden Rd and out to Twin Oaks Valley Pkwy, getting onto Mission Rd via Richmar Ave and Marcos St.  We stayed on this until it turned into Santa Fe Ave, following it with gentle climbs and descents over to Civic Center Dr.  Left turn here and over the 78, where the road turned into Sunset Dr.  This is a nice residential street.  Over to Lake Dr via Ridge Rd, taking this road to College Blvd.  This is a really nice area for riding, good streets and fairly gentle inclines.  Right on Cannon Rd and then a left onto El Camino Real.  I hadn't ridden in this area before either.  Took it up to Palomar Airport Rd, a more familiar route.  Up to San Marcos Blvd, keeping it above 10 mph on the climbs and feeling pretty good.  Over to Twin Oaks Valley Pkwy, where we took a left and then connected back to Borden Rd.  From there, we retraced our route back to Joe's house. Then I rode home the normal way via Centre City Pkwy.
