02-01-2020 Ride

Ride with Mark Cook, piling our bikes into my temporary lease car (a sedan) and heading out to Pedaya for the start.  It was cool, not cold, and breezy.  We headed out the 44 toward the 38, riding generally into a steady wind.  On the climbs, Mark was hanging with me for a while then dropping back.  He is working his way back into cycling shape after the holidays.  I wasn't fast at all but felt okay for the most part.  We headed south on the 38, riding out for about 20 miles total before turning around and retracing our route.  The way back was noticeably aided by a tailwind for much of the return.  I felt okay on the climbs but slower than desired, especially on that climb just after turning back onto the 44.  Need more elevation gain in my rides to build my fitness back up more quickly.  At one point, I had a twinge in my leg muscle, but it didn't develop into anything.  I was tired out at the end and didn't have much left to push, so it was the right amount of effort for my current fitness level.

Avg speed = 15.3 mph. Total mileage = 40.6 mi
Avg heartrate = 135 bpm
Total elevation gain = 3240'
