07-03-2024 Hike/Ride

Got up pretty early and got started on my hike, with weighted pack. I headed down the hill and onto the trails by RB Community Park, making my way down by the lake and then back up the hill and home. Hike was about an hour and 10 minutes. Felt decent, still not completely satisfied with the weight distribution between my hips and my shoulders. Once I got home, I had the rest of the pancakes and then got ready for a bike ride. This one was not going to be fast, and I decided, during the ride, to include some elevation challenge. Headed through the neighborhood, taking the Capilla Rd route up to RB Rd and then the extended route through the 4S Ranch neighborhood to get over to Four Gee Rd, where I turned right and rode up to the end, turning left and taking Camino Santa Fe to its top before turning around and riding back to Camino del Sur. I headed down to Artesian Rd and took it all the way down to where the creek blocked the road, then turned around and rode the 1.5 miles back up to the top before the up and down to get back to Camino del Sur. Then it was down to Paseo del Sur, turning left there and riding up to Del Sur Ridge Rd, which I used to get to Lone Quail Rd. Back to RB Rd, then home the normal way via W Bernardo Dr. Felt fine on the ride, I was methodical on the climbs and they got my heartrate up there, even though I didn't go all out.

Avg speed = 14.9 mph. Total mileage = 20.5 mi
Avg power = 125 W. Weighted avg power = 169 W
Total elevation gain = 1680'
Avg heartrate = 114 bpm (Coospo), 132 bpm (Fitbit)

I had some time when I got home, and Ann was working in the front yard, so I went out and chopped that ugly big bush all the way down to its base. We'll see how long it takes to grow back up. Then I went in and got ready for my volunteer shift at the hospital. No major new things happened, it was moderately busy, especially at the beginning and toward the end, and there was a lull in the middle. Toward the end, an emergency case came in that had many of the staff hopping. This guy was incredibly jaundiced, his skin color was yellow. After the shift, I rode home, changed, then drove over to Pieology to have Father's Day dinner with Emily and Caleb. It was a fun discussion, I like hanging out with them. The rest of the evening was pretty chill. I changed my rear tire, since it had a slow-leak flat, and I loaded everything into the car for the drive down to Shelter Island in the morning.
