04-29-2015 Run

Run in the morning while staying at Mom's house, trying to generally follow the lake shore line heading east and eventually making my way to Foley Rd.  I ran up to the subdivision and looped around it, this time going clockwise unlike the previous time.  There was a fair amount of traffic on Foley Rd, and it caused me to have to run in the grass, which was a little awkward and slowed me down.  I am running a steady pace now but not getting any faster.

04-28-2015 Run

Run with Laura while visiting her in Austin, leaving from in front of her apartment and doing a loop around the neighborhood (see map).  She is running faster now, and we kept up a pretty decent pace throughout the run, finishing with a sprint for the last 25 yds or so.

04-25-2015 Run

Run in the morning while staying at Mom's house.  I ran through the neighborhood and eventually got out to Foley Rd.  It was dark at the start, and there were several times when a few drops of rain fell.  I ran up to the small subdivision to the north of Foley Rd and ran around this loop before heading back.  Made it back to the house before the rains came, and it was a good thing because there were thunderstorms and heavy showers.

04-23-2015 Ride

Solo ride, beginning about 6:00 in the morning when it was light enough to see well.  I rode down by the park and onto Pomerado Rd up to RB Rd, and from there I followed the time trial route.  I was interested in maintaining a steady pace but not pushing it, so the ride was a good general workout without any significant high-output stretches.

04-21-2015 Ride

Solo ride in the evening over to yoga, following the normal route.  I had some stretches where I was feeling good, and I had the benefit at least early on of a steady tailwind.  Was a little slower than I wanted to be on the climb up before the 78, but I made good time afterward, with a strong finish.  Took 33:51 to ride the distance.

04-20-2015 Run

Run at lunchtime with Evgeny, heading from the circle out to Via del Campo, down to RB Rd. over to Camino San Bernardo, then to Camino del Norte, finally connecting with W Bernardo Dr and getting back onto the campus via the closer entrance.  We followed the interior fence line until we were parallel to the credit union, then we finished there.  Our pace was faster than the previous Monday, and we ran mile #3 the fastest.

04-19-2015 Ride

Solo time trial ride, starting at 6:00 because I had to be at church early.  I had the lights on but didn't need them for myself, only to be seen more easily.  I started kinda slow up the first hills but kept a pretty steady pace going up Pomerado Rd, trying to ride above 20 mph once I got past the hospital and keeping it at that pace for nearly all of the Poway Rd stretch.  I slowed down on the section up Sabre Springs Pkwy and Rancho Carmel Dr but didn't let up, same thing on the little climb on Camino del Norte.  I caught the lights by the freeway and rode through by work, again trying to keep pedaling.  I hit the light at full speed by RB Rd but was running out of gas in my legs and couldn't maintain a high speed near Duenda Rd.  Finished with a decent push up this last little climb and coasting home.  Ended at 57:58, which was better than I expected, given my tired legs.

04-18-2015 Ride

Solo ride initially, heading over into Escondido and onto BVP.  It was a lot chillier than I thought it was going to be, so my fingers were really cold as I rode down and across the freeway.  Once I started riding up BVP, the situation got more bearable.  Up to Sunset Dr and over to Juniper St, taking it down to Washington St and then over to Broadway.  I rode out to El Norte Pkwy turned and then started heading back to Dave's house via Centre City Pkwy.  At about 13th St, I met up with John, who was also getting some early riding in before meeting up with Dave.  Down to Montview and over to Dave's house, where we met up with him and then headed back the way we came in, to Centre City Pkwy heading north.  We took it all the way to Deer Springs Pkwy, keeping the pace decidedly slower so that we could ride with Dave, who hadn't been out riding seriously for quite a while.  Over to Buena Creek Rd, taking it up and over to Santa Fe Ave.  On the flat section after the steeper downhill, John was pushing the pace pretty good.  We got onto Santa Fe Ave and took it over to Mission Rd.  Dave was slowing down by this time, so we took a steady pace and kept with him.  Into Escondido and over to Valley Pkwy via Tulip St.  Onto Centre City Pkwy via Quince St and 13th St.  From there, it was back to Dave's house via Felicita Ave and Redwood St to Montview Dr.  I had a smoothie at his place before heading home the normal way, making pretty good time on the last two little climbs.

04/13/2015 Run

Run with Evgeny over lunch.  He claimed that his pace wasn't fast, but I didn't notice much other than on the uphill and downhill sections.  We ran from the circle down Via del Campo until we got to a trail that leads through the complex of Sony buildings, and we took it.  It has a couple of steep little sections to climb up and come down.  We ran this loop and then essentially retraced our route.  It was a good run, and we decided to make it a regular thing for running together on Mondays at lunchtime.

04-11-2015 Ride

Ride up to Jim's house, and we continued over to Duenda Rd and then down to W Bernardo Dr,  Headed toward Escondido, and it was a little chilly on this downhill.  Over the bridge on the freeway, heading up BVP.  I kept my pace dialed back and generally rode with Jim, particularly in the first half of the ride.  We rode to the 78 and then did the little jog to get onto Citrus Ave, taking back to BVP and turning right to get over to Valley Pkwy.  Turned on El Norte Pkwy, which we took down to Broadway.  Then it was over to Jesmond Dene Rd, where there were three riders ahead of us for me to try and catch.  I just did, at the top of the last little hill, where I stopped to wait for Jim to catch up.  We continued to Centre City Pkwy and then onto Deer Springs Rd, connecting to Twin Oaks Valley Pkwy and making good time back into San Marcos.  We turned left on Barham Dr and took it over to Mission Rd, taking the shorter route via Tulip St to Valley Pkwy and then onto Quince St, eventually getting onto Centre City Pkwy and taking the normal route home.  It wasn't a lot of miles for me, so I felt strong at the end and made a pretty good run up to Jim's house before finishing at home.

04-08-2015 Run

Run at lunch from work, heading over to Bernardo Center Dr, then turning right on Camino del Norte.  I was feeling pretty good at the start and ran the first two miles, net downhill, in under 7:00 each.  Right on Camino San Bernardo, taking it over to RB Rd and heading back.  By this time, the grade was uphill and I was slowing down.  Over to Via del Campo and back to the campus.  This is a nice loop for distance.

4-5-2015 Ride

Didn't record this ride originally, found it during annual mileage review.  Through the neighborhood to RB Rd, then Dove Canyon Rd to Carmel Valley Rd.  Out to Camino del Sur, which I took to its end, turning left and riding through this neighborhood until this road, Torrey Santa Fe Rd, also dead-ended.  Then I turned around and took Camino del Sur back to RB Rd, following it down to W Bernardo Dr and then home via Aguamiel Rd.

04-04-2015 Ride

Solo ride on Saturday morning, no other takers to join along.  It was a little chilly at the start, and I began before sunrise, so I started the ride with my lights on.  Headed down by the park, then took Pomerado Rd all the way to the top.  I couldn't keep a good pace on the last mile, need more miles on my legs to be able to sustain a high effort for long.  Then it was down to Miramar Rd and out to UTC,  At this point, I felt like I had a tailwind, and I made good time.  Right on Eastgate Mall, taking it over to Genesee Rd and over to Torrey Pines Rd.  I kept my pace above 10 mph on the climb up, but it was a chore near the top.  Then it was down to the coast and up into Del Mar, feeling good but not seeing many cyclists on the road.  There was a big group of them gathered in downtown Del Mar, but they weren't riding.  Headed over to Via de la Valle and rode it up to Del Dios Hwy, again keeping it above 10 mph but having to work at it on one of the short, steeper stretches.  On the approach to the climb up Del Dios, I caught up with a guy who was riding a vintage Lemond bike in perfect shape, and we rode up the climb, with me leading all of the way on the first climb and him taking over after that.  I was able to keep it above 10 mph, but it took nearly all I had, and I wouldn't have done it if that guy weren't right there pushing me to give my max effort.  On the climbs on Via Rancho Pkwy, I started to feel my quads tightening up.  There were a lot of riders we passed on Del Dios and some more on Via Rancho Pkwy.  Back home the normal way, with not much left for the little climb before the park.  I was able to finish on a pretty strong note on the little climb up Aguamiel Rd.
