Very short night, woke up about an hour earlier than I would have liked but slept through with vivid dreams. Getting ready for this ride was more fraught than desired. Got dressed quickly, didn't eat anything before the ride. Woke Pat up, thinking I had plenty of time, but I ended up having to scramble to find my Wahoo (almost left without it), wake my pedals up (connect them to charging cable), and get water. In any case, we were off a little after 9:00. Rode over to La Ganga climb, which I kinda remembered from last time. We rode up initially from the south, started at the others' pace but as it got steeper I rode out ahead. I think I rode pretty well on the latter sections of the climb, but the slow start gave me a slow overall time. I waited for a couple of minutes at the top, saw two riders coming along (thinking they were Pat and Mark) and followed them down. It was only near the bottom that I realized neither one of them was one of us. So I waited on the flats after the descent, and they came down not too long after. Stayed with them and we rode together further north, through a couple of nice little villages, doing a small loop at the top of the ride before retracting our route back up La Ganga from the north side. This time, when I rode out in front Mark followed me, and we pushed pretty hard up the climb. I ended up dropping him about 2/3 of the way up. Waited for them at the top and took video of them coming by, then we all did the nice winding descent back towards Palamos. We took a little different route back to the house, all stayed together. The bike worked out well. It's a little more rigid around the front fork, but it shifts and climbs pretty well. I did have an embarrassing moment near the start of the ride when I couldn't figure out the shifting of the DI2 system. But it was a quick fix to get educated, and we were off shortly after.

Had a little late breakfast after my stomach settled, and we were all chatting about stuff and what to do during the day. We ended up packing a bunch of gear and walking down to the little beach on the small bay near their place. Went snorkeling initially (took a little time to adjust to the snorkel, fins, and mask) and saw several schools of small fish that were cool. Other isolated fish as well, bottom was rocky with just a little growth on the rocks, but the water was very clear. Came back and helped push Ann out on the paddle board, then sat on the beach for a while. Eventually, when she came back I went out on the board and tried it out. It was kinda fun, challenging to stand up and stay up, but I did a couple of times. Mark went out on it when I got back, and I hung out on the rocks in the water and chatted with Ann and Karmi. Was a little surprised to see topless women at the beach. We eventually carried the beach gear (me with the paddle board) back to the house and then met the ladies at a restaurant a little further down the beach. Wasn't much vegetarian choice (something of a trend here), but I made do. Walked back after lunch and had a quiet afternoon, taking a little nap, having a shower, and watching the last of the La Vuelta stage race. Then we all pitched in to help for dinner, with Mark making pizza in his new pizza oven. I helped with the salad and then with clean-up afterwards. Enjoyable chat after dinner focused on memorable concerts seen, accompanied by liqueur selection. Went to bed around midnight.
