07-18-2025 Run/Ride

Woke up after a decent enough night's sleep. I got ready for a run and headed down by a nearby marshy creek. Got about 4 miles in, then walked back to the house to cool down. This was an easy-paced run, and the cool-down walk afterward was also refreshing.

Avg pace = 8:20/mi
Total distance = 4.13
Elapsed moving time = 34:28
Avg heartrate = 124 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 8

Had some breakfast and chatted, then I saw I had enough time to go out for a ride. David was at the office, so I went by myself. I picked a decent-looking route from Strava, when took me over to the old 395 and headed south, with a little loop hear the end before turning around and heading back. The route was fairly flat, had a long very gradual climb on the way out. I struggle keeping up a consistent high power output on flat roads, but I had a decent average speed for the ride, and my heartrate shows it was definitely a cardio workout.

Avg speed = 18.9 mph. Total mileage = 29.5 mi
Avg power = 156 W. Weighted avg power = 171 W
Total elevation gain = 950'
Avg heartrate = 142 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 95
Training Load = 98
Intensity = 78%

After the ride I cleaned up, then we drove Danny to the airport to pick up his rental car. Christine gave us a tour of the area after that, including their old neighborhood and house, UNR, and the downtown area, which is being revitalized. We met David down there and had Cajun food for lunch, then walked around a little more before heading back. Easy conversation in the afternoon and a nice dinner, with wine, before we headed to the Grand Sierra Resort to see Alison Krauss and Union Station. We met Emma and Austin in the line to get into the theater, and David bought us all drinks. This was a mistake for me. Sat down in our seats, which were decent but a little far back, and nearly right away the concert started. I did have a little chance to talk with Austin while we were waiting to get in. Life is quite busy for them. Sat by Emma and talked to her a little bit about the CPB funding cuts, which is going to have a big impact on her job and workplace. Willie Watson was the opening act, he was forgettable. I enjoyed the main act, ended up having to pee during the intermission as well as in the middle of the concert, but I lucked out and picked a time when everybody was talking onstage, so I didn't miss any music. Here were the Union Station band members:
Russell Moore - past bluegrass singer of the year
Barry Vales
Ron Block
Stuart Duncan
Jerry Douglas

No alcohol at future concerts, I think. It tends to fuzz up my experience, not in a good way. Had another pee after the concert, then David drove us home and it was to bed.
