11-26-2025 Ride

Woke up and got up around 6:00. Ann was already up, which was unusual. I chilled for a bit, had some cereal and a banana for breakfast, then got ready for a bike ride. This was going to be one where I pushed myself steadily throughout. Through the neighborhood to RB Rd, then the old standard way to the 56 bike path and down to the coast. I tried not to let up throughout the ride unless I was coasting, and even then I was pedaling more than usual. Got to PCH and turned left, riding down to the entrance to the park and stopping for a biobreak. I was going to ride up the inside route until I remembered that they were doing road maintenance on it. Didn't want to get caught partway up and have to turn around, so I went back and rode the outside route instead. I didn't kill myself on this climb, focused on being steady and not letting up. To the top and turning around to ride back the same way I had come, at least to Carmel Valley Rd. On both outbound and return routes on the bike path, I avoided the flooded area where the ducks and turtles hang out. Took Carmel Valley Rd back to CdS and turned left there, then I rode back home the old normal way via RB Rd and W Bernardo Dr. I kept my foot on the gas as much as possible on the return route, and I think I was actually faster on the return than on the outbound route. Legs were starting to feel tired near the end, but I pushed through and finished strong.

Avg speed = 17.5 mph. Total mileage = 42.4 mi

Total elevation gain = 2610'
Avg heartrate = 128 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 80
Training Load = 198
Intensity = 88%

Got home, had a little time to relax before heading over to the hospital for my volunteer shift. Nothing major to report, other than it was hopping. All beds were occupied essentially throughout the shift. Left right at 4:30 and rode home to change for a mystery event with Ann. She drove us over to Pitcher's in RP, where a number of my Bisikleta friends had gathered for a belated 65th birthday celebration. Perse and Andy planned it after Charlie's suggestion. Cam, Eric, Gideon, Fritz, and Perse were also there. It was a great thing that Perse and Andy coordinated, I think it's the first surprise party anybody has ever thrown for me. Home after that, where we sat out by the fire pit with Laura and Joe for a while before heading to bed.
