I had some of their coffee, very dark and rich, when I got home, then Ann made beignets, which were, as always, delicious. Cleaned the kitchen after that, trying to stay ahead of the cooking. Then I made the filling for the pumpkin loaf Joe and I were making, and he spread it on and rolled the loaf up. Ann made the apple pie and stuffing. Joe and I watched a fair amount of the Ohio State - Michigan football game, OSU was just too good for Michigan to keep up with. In the afternoon I went out in the garage and adjusted the front derailleur on my Fuji bike so it would shift into the upper chainring more easily. Had a lot of trouble getting the chain QuickLink to lock, I ended up switching it for another one, and that worked. Emily and Caleb came over around 3:15, was some nice family time, quiet, while dinner prep was finishing up. We ate dinner early, all the food was excellent, dinner conversation was cordial and nice. After dinner, I cleaned up the dishes while Ann put the leftovers away. Emily was playing the piano in her normal Thanksgiving way, and Laura was criticizing her in what she thought was a humorous manner. Emily got upset about it and went into the back yard to cry, which was a real downer. Laura went out and apologized and eventually it was all smoothed over. Desserts in the evening after some casual conversation. The apple pie was delicious, just a tad over-baked, and the pumpkin roll was good, although Ann thought it was a little gummy and could have used some more baking. Maybe it's the combination of the filling and the cake that gives it this texture, more work needed to perfect the recipe. Was a nice Thanksgiving dinner overall, other than the blow-up between the girls that, thankfully, didn't derail the entire evening.
