04-10-2025 Swim/Hike

Woke up after a fitful night of vivid dreams. Must have been the Pepsi I had for lunch the previous day, along with a veggie burger at the hospital cafeteria. I ate a bowl of cereal and a banana for breakfast, then got ready for a swim at the WWC. Saw Ken there for the first time in ages. He mentioned that the ocean temperature is 55 deg now, pretty cold. Yikes! I hope it warms up before early May. Didn't feel all that smooth in the water on this day, not sure why. I ended up swimming 1700 yds, then an additional 250 with a pull buoy. Here are the splits for the 3 500s, the 200, and the last 250: 9:26, 9:54, 10:01, 3:57, 4:41. Generally kept my stroke count to 20, but I was gliding into the turns frequently, which is not efficient for time. Had some coffee when I got home and relaxed for a bit. Then I headed out into the front yard to start weeding there. Lots of weeds in the rock bed near the house, and I worked on it for about an hour, with still more to do. Then I came in and had some chill time. Ate lunch, and had a little nap, then Ann and I got the camping gear down and went through the list to gather stuff for the weekend trip. In the mid-afternoon, I went for a walk/hike, down to the hiking trails near the house. I originally intended to hike down to the lake, but on one of the trails I saw a rattlesnake right in the middle of the trail. It's funny that I had just been thinking about Ann seeing the snake on a similar part of this trail a long time ago, and there another one was! Turned around there and walked on the trail that leads up by the little waterfall instead, then surface streets back home. After dinner, we drove down to UCSD to see the 65th anniversary Second City touring group at the Epstein Family Amphitheater. It was moderately entertaining, some of the bits were funny but none uproarious. There were six cast members, and each one was funny in their own way but no superstars in the bunch. It was probably the first time that we had seen a comedy show in an outdoor venue. I was still tired, yawned a lot during the show, not sure why this was such a low-energy day for me. Drove home and pretty much went straight to sleep.
