Got up early to go for a ride before driving up to Refugio State Beach. It was 38 at the start, so I bundled up pretty well, only my hands were significantly cold. Started on the time trial route, up to Poway Rd, where I kept going straight. I thought briefly about riding to the top of Pomerado Rd but turned on Scripps-Poway Pkwy instead and power climbed that little hill. The downhill on Springbrook Dr was brisk. Onto Sabre Springs Pkwy, taking it up to Morning Creek Dr, where I turned right. This is a short steep climb and rapid descent back to Sabre Springs Pkwy. I followed the time trial route for a while after that, it was warming up by this time. I stayed on Camino del Norte to Camino San Bernardo, then took that road to RB Rd. Home through the neighborhood from there. It was a nice little 20-miler.
Avg speed = 15.2 mph. Total mileage = 20.4 mi

Relative Effort = 24
Training Load = 67

When I got home, I cleaned the kitchen dishes and wiped down the counters while making coffee. Then I loaded the gear into the car and finished packing my stuff. We were on the road a little after the 9:30 target. No major traffic jams on the way up, although we did run I to a slowdown on the 405 around the airport. Stopped for lunch near Simi Valley at Fusion Grill and picked up some beer afterwards. Then Ann drove the rest of the way to the campsite with no interruptions. Setting up camp was a little bit more trouble than usual, I couldn't figure out why the tent wouldn't go up. Eventually worked it out and finished camp setup, then an and I walked on the beach before sunset. She walked a lot longer than me, just a little beach is enough in my book. Dinner was stew and toasted rolls with a cheese ball. The wind started seriously kicking up during dinner, so I rushed to secure the campsite and get into the tent, making it an early evening. Bundled up in anticipation of a cold night.
