11-20-2024 Ride

Travel day. It was cold again when we woke up but warmed up rather quickly. I got up and got the dishes out, started the water for the coffee and began packing things up, including the vestibule. Once Ann got up, I started on the tent but stopped for breakfast (yogurt, cobbler, coffee, toast). The camp teardown went smoothly, although it appears that the grill cover than Ann made got blown away at some point. We were on the road before 9:00, which had been my target. Full tank of gas, so we drove all the way without stopping. We ran into traffic delays, obviously, as I drove on the LA freeways. It was off and on until just about Anaheim, then it cleared up and stayed clear all the rest of the way. Put our stuff away when we got home, and I took a little break before getting ready to get some riding miles in. I got some beer for my birthday from Emily and a little care package from Mom with a god-awful shirt. That one is not going to get worn by me. Before the ride, I tried an adjustment on my new bike, on which I had previously installed new brake pads. The front pads were rubbing against the rotor, so I cracked open the bleed port by the shifter and pushed the pistons in as far as I could. This appeared to do the trick. I headed down by the park and then up Pomerado Rd to RB Rd, and from there I followed the time trial route. Kept up a steady pace although at times I slowed down a little bit because of tired legs. Still, I had a strong finish, which included hitting some traffic lights just right. I rode down W Bernardo Dr to Aguamiel Rd and rode up that little climb to home. Brakes are working really well, very responsive and no rubbing as far as I can tell.

Avg speed = 17.3 mph. Total mileage = 19.8 mi
Avg power = 152 W. Weighted avg power = 175 W
Total elevation gain = 1100'
Avg heartrate = 127 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 33
Training Load = 63
Intensity = 72%

Had a shower and a shave when I got home, it felt good to be clean again. After dinner, I drove over and picked up John, Vivian, and Jayden to take them to the airport for a trip to see family in Pennsylvania. The trip to the airport and then back home was uneventful, but the evening had a nice finish (<>!).
