64th birthday, and it started off well (<>!). We had oatmeal, yogurt, and coffee for breakfast. Original plan was to make cherry cobbler the previous evening, but it was just too windy. During the night, the wind at times had to be 30+ mph. The tent held up well, no issues there. After cleaning up the breakfast dishes, I went for a bike ride. Headed out of the campground and north on the 101. I was worried about the wind effect, and it was noticeable, but only occasionally did it become bothersome. I rode along the ocean and turned toward Gaviota State Beach when I got there. This is where the 101 heads inland and up, and the gusty winds were too much for me to deal with on this day. There was a service road that I followed, staying along the coast for a little bit until it led me to the entrance to Hollister Ranch, some kind of resort I guess. I turned around there and rode back to the 101 and south from there. On the return, it was much more common that the wind was helping me along, and it was a fun ride. I still had some time when I got near the campground, so I rode up Refugio Rd for a while until it started to get steeper. The road conditions are generally bad and really awful at times, which slowed me down on the return descent. Somewhere around here, I must have lost the screw for my head unit mount, which is a little unfortunate.

Got back to the campsite, had a little bit to eat and a short rest, then I changed clothes and we drove to Solvang for lunch. Ann found us a place with new-age Mediterranean fare. It was just okay, pretty expensive for what we got. We walked around Solvang for just a little while, that was enough for me. Drove back, getting gas in Buellton. Once we got back, we started preparing the cherry cobbler in the Dutch oven. It wasn't as windy, and the air temperature was quite pleasant. Finished making the cobbler and started getting dinner ready, grilled tofu and vegetables. The fire was too hot and I didn't put the grate far enough away from the charcoal, so some things got a little charred. It was still very good. Ann made a fire while I did the dishes, and we sat by the fire for a while before eating cobbler for dessert. This was probably too much food for me, my stomach was aching. I sat by the fire a little longer and then got ready for sleep. Felt better after I laid down. The wind was blowing nowhere near as hard as the previous evening, at least as I was reading and getting ready to go to sleep.
