05-07-2025 Ride/Walk-Run

Well, this was a painful ride. Legs were sore when I woke up, from the harder ride on the previous day. I took it easy on this ride and it still hurt, in part because of the route that John set up for us. Rode over to his house via W Bernardo Dr to RB Rd, then the normal way until I got to Alpine Ter on the little climb up Springhurst Dr, turning there. I rode up to the top of Briarleaf Way, then over to John's house and to the end of Dapple Way before pulling into his driveway. We then took the normal route up to the top of Pomerado Rd, slow for me and slower for John. Then it was down the hill to Scripps-Poway Pkwy, where we turned right and rode up that first climb to Kirkham Rd, turning right there and riding up to nearly the end of Community Rd, where we turned left. Thrilling descent to Metate Ln, staying on Community Rd until we got to Twin Peaks Rd, where we turned right. I was ready to be done with the ride by this time, it was that bad, but I suffered through. We rode up to Espola Rd and from there followed the old time trial route for a while, just not as fast as back in the day. To Sabre Springs Pkwy, then Ted Williams Pkwy, taking it up to Pomerado Rd, where we turned right and rode back to Scripps-Poway Pkwy. I pushed harder on this section, just trying to get back to John's house. Higher effort after turning right onto Scripps-Poway Pkwy, then I coasted back into his neighborhood. Did an extra little loop after I got to his place to catch him as he returned. I didn't stay long, was afraid my legs would stiffen up, so I rode home the normal way (via Bernardo Center Dr to Duenda Rd) from there, with the exception of coming back on Azucar Way and riding to the top of Creciente Way in order to get to 2600' of climbing for the day. Had originally planned on going out for a run after I got home, but that wasn't going to happen on this morning.

Avg speed = 15.4 mph (15.5 mph). Total mileage = 41.9 mi
Avg power = 131 W. Weighted avg power = 155 W
Total elevation gain = 2600' (2910')
Avg heartrate = 120 bpm
Relative Effort = 53 (54)
Training Load = 152
Intensity = 70%

Had a shower when I got home and relaxed for a bit before heading over to the hospital for a free lunch and my volunteer shift. The lunch was a veggie burger and a Pepsi, nothing great. It was a generally quiet shift, not so busy and no times where I was really busy. When I got home, I got ready for a walk-run with Caleb and Emily at Kit Carson Park. Ann and Jen came too and walked behind us. Leftovers for dinner after we got home, then I watched some TV in the evening.
