05-17-2025 Run

This was a signature day, for accidental reasons. I got up a little before 6:00, slept okay for unfamiliar bed and lots of caffeine the previous day. Decided to go for a run and used Strava to help map out a 6-mile distance. The main streets in this area are on a rectangular grid, so I picked a grid rectangle and set off. Should have known as I was running the first leg west on McMillan Rd that it seemed long until I turned onto Linden Ave. I ran the first two miles at 8-minute pace, headed north to Chinden Blvd and turned right there. It was on this stretch that the leg seemed never to end. I was also running into a mild headwind, but I was steadily improving my pace with each mile, which was the target. Down to Eagle Rd, turning right and running on the east side of the road where there was a sidewalk (it was kinda curvy). Here is when I knew I would be over 6 miles. I was settled into a pace around 7:45 and kept it up until past mile 7 and the turn back onto McMillan Rd. The tail wind helped here as I was running a distance I hadn't run in a very long time, maybe since cross-country days. I was really looking forward to seeing the turn into Blair's neighborhood, and it came at mile 8. Felt surprisingly good to not poop out beyond mile 6, and my legs and feet weren't feeling any particular soreness at the finish.

Avg pace = 7:48/mi
Total distance = 8.03 mi
Elapsed moving time = 1:02:38
Avg heartrate = 142 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 55

When I got back, Blair made breakfast burritos, which were pretty good. I had a shower and then we headed into Boise for some car sightseeing. We drove to a downtown farmer's market, it was lightly raining and there wasn't much to see, was more of a vendor's market. Then he attempted to drive to the capitol, but we got hilariously misdirected and ended up at the entrance to a mall in the industrial outskirts where there was an Apple (Apple = Capitol?) store. We redirected and retracted our route back downtown and by the state Capitol building, then drove to verify the location of the bike rental shop, which was nearby. From there we drove to the downtown Trader Joe's and had another humorous series of attempts to get into the parking lot. Got supplies for making pizza and then headed back to his house. The afternoon was quiet (had a little nap), rain wasn't intense but was steady, so we decided not to go out on the recumbent bikes. Made the pizza instead, it was okay but the crust stuck to the pans. Watched the first two episodes of Andor in the evening, which required figuring out how to cast my phone screen to his TV. I'm still not fully sure how we figured out how to get it to work. Then it was time to read a little bit and go to sleep.
