05-13-2025 Ride

Woke up after a decent night's sleep and got ready for a early ride toward Ramona. At the last minute, I decided to reverse the loop, heading down by the park and then up Pomerado Rd to Scripps-Poway Pkwy, where the more intense climbing began. Up to Kirkham Way, turning right and continuing the climb past Community Rd. Then it was a slight downhill to Danielson St, which I took to get back to Scripps-Poway Pkwy. Down the hill and then the Purple Monster, where I started slower and finished pretty strong. I hoped to do it faster but was okay with the effort. Up to the 67, heading north and taking a couple of smaller climbs up to the pass near Mt Woodson. The descent into the outskirts of Ramona was fast, with a tail wind. I ate a granola bar at the turn onto Highland Valley Rd. Here I was riding into a head wind, which was a challenge until I got to the climb, when the wind didn't make much difference. Took the descent fairly fast and stayed fairly intense in effort on the flats back to Pomerado Rd. Last two climbs were okay, legs held up and I felt fine at the end of the ride.

Avg speed = 16.3 mph (16.4 mph). Total mileage = 39.8 mi

Once I got home, it was chore time. I went out in the back yard and worked on the sprinkler line repair, cutting the PVC pipe segment and gluing it into the tee. Left it to dry, and Ann and I went to Home Depot and picked up the first batch of large retaining wall blocks for the second garden bed. I also got some sprinkler parts and chain saw oil. When we got home I  needed a break, it had been a busy morning. Had some lunch, fairly light. Then I moved the blocks into the back yard and built the wall, designed to be two courses of blocks. After that, I needed another break, so I chilled for a while, had a little nap. Then I drove back to Home Depot and got the second load of blocks. I had to hustle when I got home to move the blocks and finish building the wall before I took a shower and got ready to meet Avi at Phil's BBQ. We had a good conversation, talked a lot about camping. Evening was quiet, watched some TV, including some NBA.
