05-09-2025 Swim/Run

Work up before 6:00, had a pretty good night's sleep after a very busy day. Went downstairs and cleaned the kitchen, then created 3 CDs from music files I had created recently. I headed over to the WWC for a swim, was the only person through the gate when it opened, even though it was a gorgeous morning. I did a warmup 250, then a pyramid workout, allowing myself an extra 15 seconds rest in between intervals. I was a little faster at all intervals than on Tuesday, particularly the longer intervals in the middle of the pyramid. Hoping that means my stamina is increasing. Finished up the workout with a 250 using the pull buoy. By the time I was done, all lanes were occupied and people were waiting. It was as busy as I have seen it this year. Here are the splits from the intervals:
250         4:38
50           0:48
100         1:46
150         2:41
200         3:37
250         4:34
200         3:38
150         2:43
100         1:45
50           0:49
250         4:24

When I got home, I blogged the results of the swim workout and then went into the back yard to work on taking down the sumac growth behind the fence. I cleared out a couple of the areas, including digging around the stump for one of the smaller bushes and chopping off some portions with my electric pruning saw. But the stump is too big to remove with just this saw, so I went to Harbor Freight and bought an inexpensive corded electric chain saw. Ann went with me and we had lunch at the North Park Produce restaurant. Then we went to Walter Andersen Nursery in Poway to get some gardening supplies. Home after that where I had a little time before I got ready to go to UCSD to meet Audrey Arinello for a run. It was 90 at home and 65 and foggy at the coast. I met her at the Hopkins Parking Structure, she found me while I was getting ready to text her. We ran from there, through campus and over to the inside route of Torrey Pines. We ran to the top parking lot, took a pic, then turned around and ran back. Each succeeding mile was faster than the last up to mile 5, where I probably slowed down. We ran to a little less than mile 6 (for me), then walked back to the lot where I parked to cool down. I wore my heartrate monitor but apparently had turned Bluetooth off on my phone by accident, so it didn't track.

Avg pace = 8:09/mi
Total distance = 5.78 mi
Elapsed moving time = 47:07

After we parted, I felt for my wallet and key, but the key wasn't there. I looked by the scooter but it wasn't there either. So I called Ann and asked her to come bring me the other key. She was going into Escondido to deliver a meal, so it would take her some time to get there. I decided to retrace my path while I waited, walked all the way back to the hospital on Torrey Pines Rd, no luck. I also looked for the key on the way back, again without success. When I got back to the parking lot and walked towards the scooter, there it was, on the ground about 50 feet away. I was totally relieved, it must have slipped out as I was using my phone to pay for parking and text Audrey. Was so happy that Ann didn't have to drive down. I put on sweats and gloves for the ride back home, and I was glad I did. It was quicker, had some party enchiladas when I got there, then I cleaned the kitchen and had a spiked lemonade to celebrate my incredible good luck. Watched a little TV and had a shower before turning in.
