03-03-2026 Ride

Travel day. Got up early and went out for an easy-paced bike ride. It was cool, almost cold, when I started out through the neighborhood. Didn't warm up much during the ride, but being out in the sun helped. Stayed on RB Rd to CdS and took it past San Dieguito Rd (SDR), turning right on Via Azul and following it to Via Corona. The a left on Via Bettona and a right on Via Verrazzano to get back to CdS. Slow pace up the gradual climb to CVR, taking it past the high school and then turning right on Torrey Meadows Dr, which took me across the 56 to Torrey Santa Fe Rd, taking a right there. I rode to the end and I to the parking lot of the apartment complex there, hoping to see a bike route out but no luck. Back out of the parking lot and then on the neighborhood streets south of this road until I got back to Torrey Santa Fe Rd and took it back to CdS. Right there and then a left on Carmel Mountain Rd, taking it back across the 56 and up to Black Mountain Rd, where I turned left. Up to CVR, I thought about climbing up Stargaze Ave but rejected the idea. Took CVR to Bernardo Center Dr and started the climb up, turning left on Cayenne Ridge Rd and following it to its dead end before turning around and taking Cayenne Creek Rd to Dove Creek Rd to get to Dove Canyon Rd. Right there, then right again on Camino San Bernardo, taking this little climb slowly and then riding home the normal way via W Bernardo Dr. Kept my long finger gloves on the entire time.

Got home, had some pumpkin bread and a banana for breakfast, along with coffee. Through the day I finished packing for the trip and also finished copying our data files to  HDD to give to Emily so she can keep it at their apartment. Cleaned the kitchen, had sandwiches and a grapefruit for lunch. I took a short nap in the afternoon, showered, and got Ann to cut my hair. We left the house around 3:20 and made pretty good time up to Irvine, other than some slowing at the junction with the 78. The carpool lane was a big help in OC. Met him for dinner at a Mexican-Persian fusion restaurant, talked about our upcoming trips, his plan to hike in the Grand Teton with his nephew Greg, and other topics. We left around 6:15 and got up to the hotel where we parked our car Ina little over an hour, some minor slowing a couple of times. Got right on the shuttle and to the airport with plenty of time. No issues going through security, it was a long walk to the gate, but we still got there two hours before departure. I used the time to reserve my bike while staying near Venice. In the late morning and early afternoon Ann had to go through the same laborious process of changing the name on her ticket, it took her just as long. Got on the plane and settled okay. It left after a small delay.
