03-12-2026 Walk

Travel day. Slept well again and woke up early feeling back to normal. I'd read for a while in the night (Lying for Money, by Dan Davies), had a shower and ate some breakfast, then finished packing and cleaning up the apartment. We left around 6:15, taking a Grab to the train station with enough time to have a coffee in a local shop before getting on the train. The ride was scenic in the middle, running, at times on cliffs, along the coast. There was an entertainment car with Karaoke, but we didn't participate. Got off the train in Da Nang and waited for our driver to show up, not too long. Drive to Hoi An was uneventful, about 40 minutes. We arrived at the Airbnb, in a building on the ground floor, that looks like a small hotel. Dropped our luggage off and headed into Hoi An Old Town while we waited for our room to be ready. Saw lots of tailor shops along with other artisans. Walked down south to the river before turning around and finding a nice quiet restaurant for lunch, allowing us to people-watch. I ate pretty well, appetite is coming back okay. We decided to head back to the Airbnb after lunch, and about halfway there Ann had a gastric distress issue. She found a nearby restaurant, after we wandered around a little too much, and that allowed us to get back to the room and check in. Did a load of wash, then Ann headed over to find a tailor shop to make her a dress while I stayed behind and read/dozed. Was a quiet afternoon for me, the power turned off when she left with the key (I didn't know the connection), but it was okay. She got back, and we chilled in the room until deciding to get a light bite to eat around 6:30. I found a vegetarian restaurant nearby, and we walked over in seriously pouring rain. They were nice enough to make us takeaway boxes, as they were getting ready to close. Took the food back to the room, it was really excellent, and we watched a travel show about Da Nang on YouTube while we ate. Rest of the evening was quiet.
