07-08-2023 Ride

Solo ride through the neighborhood over to the 4S Ranch neighborhood, where I went all the way up by the water tower turnoff (but not up that road) before coming back down to Ralphs Ranch Rd and then heading over to Four Gee Rd, taking it to its end and then turning around.  Up Paseo del Sur to Del Sur Ridge Rd and over to Garretson Rd to get to the starting point at the 4S Target.  On this ride there were: Fritz, Arnold, Ray, Nel, Aaron, Robert, and Jed.  Kamal and his friend Omar were at the start but didn't begin with us, having to fix a flat tire instead.  We headed out the normal way to El Apajo, I was in front with Fritz on the CdS bump, and several riders really screamed down the hill.  Over and up to Stud Loop, where Aaron was super fast on the little climb on Via de la Valle and I kept ahead of the rest of the pack.  Was first through the Loop, it was me catching Jed and riding with him until I pulled away.  We headed over to El Montevideo and took it to San Elijo Rd, turning left and, after a gradual uphill, enjoying a long downhill that caused four of us - me, Jed, Aaron, and Arnold - to miss a turn on the route.  So we jogged over to Rambla de Las Flores and took it up to Linea del Cielo while I texted the group to meet us at that intersection.  First up the short, steep little climb at the end, with Jed not far behind.  Then we all gathered together and headed to Lomas Santa Fe and down to the Coast Hwy.  From there, it was left up into Del Mar, where Fritz got out ahead on the climb into the village and I put in a max effort charge to catch and pass him.  Then it was a more modest pace up to the turn onto Carmel Valley Rd where I turned left to get back home in time to attend the memorial service for Mary Anne Dijak's mom.  I dialed my pace back somewhat here, riding over the the 56 bike path and taking it up to Carmel Valley Rd.  Stayed on it all the way up and over the crest by Black Mountain Rd and down to Dove Canyon Rd, where I turned and rode up to RB Rd.  From there, I rode back the normal way through the neighborhood.  Felt good on this ride, lots of residual power to attack near the end of the little climbs.  Heartrate was higher, I think it's in part due to riding the last half of the ride in the sun, with higher temperatures to deal with.  Legs were very tired in the afternoon.

Avg speed = 16.7 mph. Total mileage = 46.1 mi
Avg power = 150 W. Weighted avg power = 184 W
Total elevation gain = 3120'
Avg heartrate = 128 bpm
