Ride with Blair from the back parking lot at work, heading out Bernardo Center Dr to Camino del Norte and turning right. It was definitely warm and dry, and the wind was a factor as well, coming generally from the southwest. We rode out to San Dieguito Rd, and I got ahead of Blair and made the turn while he didn't. I waited for him at the top of Three Witches, but when he didn't show up I rode back to the intersection and saw him coming back. Turned around and we rode down into Fairbanks Ranch, continuing into the flats. I thought I knew where to turn according to his route but was wrong, so we ended up riding farther on the flats and then turning around to get back to Rancho Diegueno Rd, where we turned right and rode up a pretty steep (>10%) 0.6 mile climb to get to Rancho Santa Fe Farms Rd, turning right there and dropping down before another steeper, shorter climb to head over to Carmel Valley Rd. We turned left and took it all the way back to Bernardo Center Dr. That involved a 2 mile climb to the top just after Black Mountain Rd, followed by the downhill to Dove Canyon Rd and then the last climb up to Camino del Norte. Back to the site from there. This route was more challenging than our normal ones, but I felt fine at the end, kept fairly hydrated during the ride.
