02-12-2025 Virtual Ride

Woke up feeling pretty much recovered from my COVID shot. I had a big bowl of oatmeal for breakfast and took my time getting ready for a ride on the indoor trainer. I got it all set up and the MyWhoosh app loaded with the latest set of routes, then picked a relatively flat one to ride, in Hegra, a city in Saudi Arabia. I thought I was going to do about 2 loops around this city but the route had an unexpected short steep climb that I had to power through. It dropped my average speed quite a bit, so I spent the most of the rest of the ride trying to get back to a 20 mph average, got close but started that climb again at the end and was slowed down. The trainer setup worked well, although I dropped my chain a couple of times during the workout and had to stop to put it back on. Held over 200 W on average for the entire hour I rode.

Avg speed = 19.7 mph. Total mileage = 20.0 mi
Avg power = 202 W. Weighted avg power = 203 W
Total elevation gain = 760'
Avg heartrate = 136 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 39
Training Load = 85
Intensity = 92%

I wore my new Bisikleta jersey on the workout. It's well made but I would have preferred that it be a little longer. Should work with bib shorts okay. Was pretty drenched with sweat at the end of the workout, but I had some time to relax before getting ready for my volunteer shift at the hospital. On the ride over there on my scooter, it was misting and lightly drizzling, and I chose the wrong jacket to wear. The jacket was pretty wet and some of it soaked through to my shirt, pants were a little damp as well. Luckily, my shoes didn't get too wet, and I dried out fairly quickly once I got there. The shift was steadily busy for me, with a lot of patients in the ED. One of the nurses had a little crying fit, not sure what that was all about, but it was weird. It was similarly misting when I rode home, but I didn't get quite as wet. Ann and I went to dinner at Sapphire Indian Restaurant in the RB Town Square shopping center. Food was good, service was a little slow, given that it was just us and another table in our dining area. Still, we may go back, I might try the lunch buffet sometime.
