Travel day. I knew it was going to be a long time on the plane, so I got up at 2:15 and went for an extended walk to get most of my steps in. It was really foggy in the neighborhood. Got home a little before 3:30 and had a shower before doing a final cleaning of the dishes and putting my stuff in the car. The drive up to the Embassy Suites near LAX, where we parked our car, was uneventful, but the first 10 minutes or so we're nerve-wracking due to the heavy fog. Thankfully, it lifted as we drove past the mall, and I only had to deal with a milder fog as we got close to the coast. No troubles on the drive, just a little traffic slowing as we got within about 10 miles of the airport. Parked and we're able to walk right on to an airport shuttle, although I forgot my second pair of reading glasses in the car. Minor detail. Both Ann and I titrated the weight of our backpacks up to the 7 kg limit, but we got checked in just fine. Got to the gate 2.5 hours before the flight boarded, but better to be on the early side. Flight was pretty full, but the seats were comfortable enough and not too cramped. We brought a fair amount of food onto the plan for the 10+ hour flight. I had several naps on the plane, finished up the Baby Reindeer series (weird, the lead character was definitely not stable or funny) and watched Emilia Perez. Now that was an unconventional movie, with musical interludes on a storyline about a drug lord who has a sex change operation and becomes benevolent, at least on the outside. Then we took a train into the city and then a subway to the Ueno Park area. Walked about 10 minutes to the Airbnb, which was fairly close to Ueno Park. We found a Fresco market somewhat close to us, so we walked over there and got some groceries for our stay, including stuff for dinner. Made dinner in the flat and had a quiet evening after a long travel experience.
