02-14-2025 Swim/Run

Had a good last few hours of sleep, woke up a little after 6:00 and got up in a bit to do the dishes and catch up on blogging. After that, I got ready for a swim at the WWC. The weather looked like it might be clearing, but I got sprinkled on as I rode over, and it was drizzling while I waited for the gates to be opened. I had the pool to myself for a while and swam in the rain for a bit. Had set up my camera with a platform so it wouldn't fall over, and that ended up working out well. This was a fast swim, I think it's the first time I was able to swim 2000 yds in under 37 minutes. I did a really bad job, however, of keeping track of laps, so I ended up swimming an extra 200 yds beyond what I had planned. Here are the splits for the 4 500s and the last 200: 8:58, 9:15, 9:18, 9:25, 3:42. It's starting to feel like I can hold my pace a little more consistently, at least after the first, faster 500. Was generally able to keep a 20-stroke pace, but I had to think about lengthening my stroke all the time, and I could tell my arms were tiring out in the latter part of the workout. After I was done, I went into the locker room and changed into running clothes, then did the reverse of the normal 5k route from the WWC. I was intentionally monitoring how my right ankle was feeling, since it had bothered me a little bit over the last 2 weeks (since I moved the bricks into the back yard). It felt fine during the run. I was faster than I expected in the first mile, but it was flat, and I slowed down in the second mile and then had more of a downhill finish to speed up a bit at the end. My ankle was just a little tender after the run, will pay attention to it over the next couple of days.

Avg pace = 8:02/mi
Total distance = 3.13 mi
Elapsed running time = 25:10
Avg heartrate = 164 bpm (Fitbit)

After I got home, I did some computer coding while Ann was running errands, then we went to Milton's Deli for lunch. It was actually pretty good although a little pricey. We got a couple of pieces of candy at See's afterward, were waited on by a lady who had worked for See's since 1979. Amazing! After we got home, I hung around for a bit then went to mail Mark's jersey to him. While I was out, I also got a greeting card for Ann and bought some new running shoes that offer better cushioning and tread for different terrain. Called Mom in the late afternoon, she sounded pretty good after complaining about her health. I told her about Kaye's recent medical problems. It was a nice quiet evening spent with my Valentine's sweetheart.
