02-01-2024 Swim

This day had its frustrations.  It was lightly sprinkling in the morning when I rode my scooter over to the WWC for a swim.  By the time I got there, it was raining.  I was surprised at the number of others who braved the rain to go swimming, including Ken and Howard.  Swam for 2000 yds following the usual protocol, finished in about 39 minutes (didn't want to leave my stopwatch out in the rain).  Then I grabbed a quick shower, changed, and rode over to the credit union to drop off my Unocal pension rollover check to Brett and Jeff.  I was pretty wet by the time I got home.  Later in the morning, I drove the car over to Bike Bling and picked up two sets of hydraulic brake pads for my bike.  I watched a couple of videos on how to replace them but didn't really understand the system at first.  When I got home and started working on the back brakes, I couldn't get the pistons to retract, so I borrowed some tools from Gideon and kept working at it, off and on (taking time when I got frustrated to walk away from the problem and try to figure out a better solution).  Eventually, I was able, in the evening, to push the pistons back and install the brakes without too much friction between the pads and the rotor.  I still needed steps when I was done, so I went for a walk around the neighborhood a little before 9:30, walking for about 40 minutes.  Thankfully, there was a lull in the rain, so my walk was mostly dry.
