09-02-2024 Ride

Woke up with enough time to get ready for the Tour de Labor with John from our house. He was early so I had to hustle a little bit to finish getting ready. We left early about 6:50. Headed over to Highland Valley Rd the normal way and enjoyed the cool overcast weather. We made decent time on the flats, then I pushed fairly hard on the first climb and ended up setting a PR (5:32, 297 W, 154 bpm), mainly by digging deeper near the top and finishing strong. I rode a little further on, then turned back to meet him at the top. Did something similar on the second and third climbs. The sun was out at the top, but we avoided the heat on the way up. The descent was thrilling as usual, I felt a little more comfortable at the higher speeds. Waited for John at the bottom, then we headed back home the same way. He was a little drained by the ride but made it fine. I was still pretty fresh at the end, took it slow up the last climbs to the house.

Avg speed = 15.3 mph. Total mileage = 21.7 mi
Avg power =157 W. Weighted avg power = 196 W
Total elevation gain = 2040'
Avg heartrate = 125 bpm (Coospo)

After the ride, I had a little time to relax and get ready for my Labor Day volunteer shift. The shift was fairly busy, I knew most of the nurses working, and they seemed to be the more senior ones. Nothing special, although I saw Ron Hinrichs and Jennifer Pauley, who were in there with their grandfather/father. He was in decent shape, nothing life-threatening as far as I could tell. The rest of the shift went smoothly. After I rode home, I had a little bit to eat before riding over to Kit Carson Park to meet Emily for a walk around the park. We had a nice, often funny conversation, and it was a good time. I ate dinner when I got home and had a quiet evening. <>
