01-06-2025 Run/Swim

Woke up after the sun came up, kinda unusual. I got ready for a slow-paced run in the low 40s. Hoodie, hat, and gloves. Down to the park and 2 loops around before heading back. I ran about 9-minute miles, felt fine, but I don't think I could have run a lot faster.

Total distance = 3.23 mi
Avg pace = 9:10/mi
Elapsed moving time = 29:38

When I got home, I had just enough time to get ready for a swim at the WWC. Water was a little cooler than I expected. First 500 went okay, but I slowed down quite a bit after that. I kept losing track of my laps, so I ended up swimming 2200 yds in right at 44 minutes. Here are my splits: 9:38, 9:58, 10:13, 10:13, 4:01. Stroke length was decent 19-20 for most of the time, but my form was really ragged in the last half. Arms got tired, I hadn't swum that far in quite a while. When I got home, it was time to pack up the camping gear, including my own stuff. Got it all loaded into the car fairly efficiently. Had a shower and did a little computer stuff, then it was time to leave. I did turn the water off to the sprinklers. The drive to the campsite in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park was uneventful, and we got the camp set up really quickly. Was a nice temperature in the late afternoon. We grilled hamburgers for dinner and had them with homemade applesauce. Then we set up the Dutch oven for berry camping cake. The charcoal started up quickly, and we still had coals from the grilling, so the baking went fairly quickly. This was one of the better batches we've made, very tasty. We sat by the fire afterward, then it was to sleep.
