01-08-2025 Entry

It was our 42nd wedding anniversary. We woke up, and I started breaking down the camp while Ann made a light breakfast. The wind in the night was occasionally very strong, but the tent and rain fly held up fine. Just one tiedown line got separated from the stake. I forgot to mention that we had a problem with one of the zippers for the tent opening not functioning. The other one works, but it's a worrisome problem because of the potential for the other one to fail. Will take a look and see what our options are here. The drive back home was uneventful. I took it easy on the climbs out of the valley. When we got home, we both worked to unpack the car and put the camping gear away, so it went fairly quickly. The rest of the day was very relaxed, not much done around the house.

I finished reading the book about Aaron Hernandez and started reading the new James S.A. Corey (Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck) book, The Mercy of Gods, which is the first in a trilogy called The Captive's War. It is about a technologically superior alien race, the Carryx, who subjugate a colony of humans with advanced skills and knowledge. The start is quite grim, we'll see just how well the humans are able to respond to this subjugation.
