It was cold, mid-30s, when I woke up, but I got ready for a morning ride anyway. Bundled up, triple gloves in this case to try and keep my hands warmer. I headed through the neighborhood to RB Rd and stayed on it to Camino del Sur, then rode a common Bisikleta route down into Fairbanks Ranch and over to the coast via El Camino Real and Via de la Valle. Was applying moderate tempo but not overdoing it. I could feel the modest effects of the longer run from the previous day. When I got to PCH, I turned right and rode up to Cardiff before turning around and heading south. Stayed on PCH through Del Mar and then turned onto Carmel Valley Rd. To the 56 bike path, which I took up to Camino del Sur before turning there. From that point, it was home the straight way via RB Rd and W Bernardo Dr. Around 2/3 of the way through, I was a little surprised that my average speed wasn't higher, but I didn't give up and kept a pretty decent output up to the end.
Avg speed = 17.2 mph. Total mileage = 42.9 mi
Avg power = 162 W. Weighted avg power = 189 W
Total elevation gain = 2130'
Avg heartrate = 130 bpm
Relative Effort = 92
Training Load = 226
Intensity = 93%
When I got home it was mid-morning, so I had a little time to relax before showering and heading over to Best Pizza & Brew to meet John for lunch. We had a nice conversation, pizza was decent but the crust was a little too soggy for my taste. I rode home after that and read for a while before Ann came back from a walk with Kay. Once she was home, we set up the extension ladder on the stairs landing, and I climbed up there to apply the spackling to the areas where it had fallen off during the roof repairs. Was a little dicey, since I was high up on the ladder, but I took my time and held on to the ladder at all times with one hand. But I got it done and down off the ladder with no mishaps. The rest of the day and evening was quiet.
