Slept restlessly, with vivid dreams about being an improv player. It was probably the iced tea I had for dinner the previous evening. I got up and got ready for the Bisikleta ride. Was a little rushed, I also finished backing up the data files for our PC. Because I was short on time, I rode through the neighborhood and took the short route to the 4S Target. Andy was there, nobody else. I thought we would have a very small group, but some others showed up, so that on this day we had the following riders: Andy, Aaron, James, Jed, and Jed A. (met us on CdS just as we were getting started). We headed out CdS to San Dieguito Rd and turned right, riding down the hill to the turn onto El Apajo. Andy was riding his new gravel bike, with big tires, so he was working harder than usual to keep pace. We rode over Via de Santa Fe to Calzada del Bosque and took it up to Via del Alba, turning right. Aaron and I were out in front on this stretch, talking while climbing (not very steep). Left on La Gracia, taking it into RSF village via La Flecha. Left turn on La Granada, through the village, then a right turn on Avenida de Acacias, taking it up to San Elijo Ave, where we turned right and rode to El Montevideo. Left turn there and the short climb up to Via de Fortuna, turning right there and getting over to El Camino del Norte, where we turned left and headed down to RSF Rd. James and I were out in front, and he was leading, pushing the pace strongly. I caught and passed him on the little climb before the stop sign, pushing myself close to the limit. Aaron was just behind me, but he chose not to pass me. We gathered at the turn and then rode up and then down to Calle Acervo, turning right there and taking an alternative route to La Costa Ave via Camino de los Coches. I like this route better, seems easier to me, maybe because the elevation gain is spread out more. We got to La Costa Ave, turned left and ended up taking this road all the way down to PCH. I got a little out in front and pushed the pace on the descent past RSF Rd. Eventually, Aaron caught me, but I hope he had to push hard to catch and pass me. I rode hard to keep him in sight but couldn't catch him. Waited at the El Camino Real intersection for Jed A. and Andy to show up, then the three of us rode pretty much together down to the coast, turning left at PCH and stopping for our break at the usual 7-Eleven. It was a shorter break than usual, then we headed south on PCH to Encinitas Blvd, turning left there for a change and taking Vulcan Ave south until we got to Birmingham Dr, where we turned left and rode up (pretty steep in places) to the bike path that parallels I-5 to the west. This road isn't long, but it was a challenge. Aaron was out in front, with me and Jed A. trailing him until near the end, when we both put on a burst of speed and passed him. It was my first time up the hill (2:34, 150 W, 144 bpm), and my time was fifth-fastest in my Strava age group. Then we rode down the bike path to Manchester Ave, crossed it and got back on the bike path to get to Solana Hills Dr and then to Lomas Santa Fe. Down to San Rodolfo Dr and then to Stevens Ave, where we turned left and rode down to VdlV. James and I got out ahead here and waited for them by the shopping center east of I-5. We all gathered back up and rode over to San Dieguito Rd via ECR. We pretty much stayed together on the flats, although Andy got dropped off the back. Jed and I waited at the gas station while the others kept going, Jed went to the bathroom and ended up leaving his sunglasses there. We continued up to the Three Witches climb, but Andy called me and said that Jed had gone back to get his sunglasses. I rode back to where Andy was, then the three of us continued up the climb. I stayed on Jed's wheel, moderate pace, until I passed him at the beginning of the third climb. He wasn't too far back because he caught me before we got to the light at CdS. The others were long gone by this time. We waited for Andy, then we all started pretty much together while I told Jed to ride ahead. Andy and I rode basically together, turning right on Paseo del Sur and taking this back to Del Sur Ridge Rd, where we turned left. Another left on Garretson St got us back to the 4S Target parking lot. Aaron had gone home, and Jed A. had turned right at CdS to ride back to Mira Mesa. I stayed around a little bit before heading home the new normal way. Felt good throughout the ride, but my all-out efforts on this ride were selective, otherwise I wasn't pushing consistently hard.

I could definitely feel my stomach rumbling when I got home. Had a sandwich and some pretzels for lunch. Watched a little TV and read. Then we drove over to Oasis in RB for a Java Joe's reunion concert. The venue was a little weird, not really set up for this kind of concert. But the performers were all interesting, and some of them were pretty good. Here is the lineup:
Lindsay White - an in-your-face protest song singer, too harsh for Ann's taste
Joel and Jamaica
Rafael - old guy and his daughter, decent
John (Jack)
Katchur - very influential in the SD music scene, music was okay
Kenny Eng - good guitar player, songs were iffy
Lisa Sanders
& Brown Sugar - I think I would go see her again
Billy Galewood (from Bushwalla) - he was also the emcee, very funny
Tim Flannery,
Jeff Berkley & Sean Rolfe - seen him before, not my favorite
Gregory Page
& Chris Click sax - in his Leon Redbone phase
Berkley Hart - were good, not great
Jack Tempchin - no need to say anything
Steve Poltz - would be interesting to see him in concert
In the future, Cara Cormier is going to be responsible for booking San Diego Folk Heritage Society concerts. We have seen her a couple of times, and Ann has talked to her briefly about booking The Lonesome Doves. We got home around 7:30, I was famished. Had eggs, chips, and salsa for dinner. Quiet evening after that.
