01-13-2026 Walk

Decided to take an easy day, so I got up and hung out around the house. Had awoken in the night and watched TV, had some cereal. Shaved, showered, and got ready for my (hopefully) last day downtown at the trial. Nothing special about the trip downtown, saw Arnold again on the bus. Jury was in deliberations, and we got started right around 9:00. The previous day, I believe I was able to convince a couple of jurors who were against finding anything in favor of George Marquez to move to the other side. This guy was a screw-up in his job. Several jurors gave him too much leeway for his poor job performance being caused by his medical condition, IMHO. Two others were hard on the other side. We ended up finding for the plaintiff in a couple of causes but awarding him limited damages because of his own contributions to his poor performance from his life decisions. Not sure if the message to Alliant was strong enough for them to realize that they were truly at fault here in a couple of ways, namely poor first-line management and inadequate HR support for the employee. Was an interesting case and experience, the jurors (Tui, Trent, Ayrton, David, Barry, Sean, Max, Erica, me, Dana, Gabi, and Diana) were a generally good lot of people to chat and interact with. Next time I would angle not to be on such a long trial, it was really like work. During the lunch break I chatted with a couple of other jurors but also took some time to go outside for a walk around downtown, was a nice day.
