01-08-2026 Virtual Ride

Today is our 43rd wedding anniversary. Woke up in early morning and read for about 45 minutes. The caffeine effects from the previous day were apparent. Got ready for a ride, but it took more time than I thought to set everything up, including retrieving the Google TV puck from the den and connecting all the sensors to MyWhoosh. Their interface is not great. I rode the Australia Cities Tour route, which is fairly flat, with just one stretch having a steep climb. My current setup doesn't increase resistance on the trainer when I climb, it just slows down for the same power output. It can work for me, since shifting on the trainer is not very smooth, and this allows me to stay in one gear throughout the ride. Rode this 16-mile route and then continued until I got right to one hour. It was definitely a workout for me, although having the fan blow directly at me helped.

Avg speed = 19.0 mph. Total mileage = 19.1 mi
Avg power = 196 W. Weighted avg power = 198 W
Total elevation gain = 850'
Avg heartrate = 132 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 29
Training Load = 81
Intensity = 90%

Again, had to rush to get ready for heading downtown. No opportunity to eat breakfast, I did the dinner dishes, packed my lunch and a snack, got my coffee (Ann had made two cups), and rode over to the transit station. Uneventful ride downtown. The lawyers rested their cases on this day shortly after we got back from our lunch break, so I was done early. Ann came down and picked me up, and we drove over to City Farmers Nursery in City Heights because there were some recommendations about seeing this spot. It was underwhelming. They had some animals in pens in the nursery, but it wasn't really what either of us expected. Prices were pretty high as well, but it was a mildly interesting diversion. We had time to kill, so we took surface streets over to the restaurant, Mama G's, where we were going to have dinner. On the way, we drove through some San Diego neighborhoods we hadn't seen much of. The restaurant was decent, I would describe the food as Peruvian fusion. Had drinks and an appetizer before dinner, as we had time to kill. The dish I got was huge, I ended up taking about half of it home. Not that much traffic to deal with on the way home, and it was a quiet evening where I watched some TV before heading to bed.
