01-12-2026 Run

Slept fairly well, waking up just a few times (<>). Shaved and made my lunch, then I got ready for a run in somewhat chilly weather, enough for gloves and a hat. Kept a fairly slow but steady pace throughout with negative splits for the three miles. Right leg 2as a little tender at the start but loosened up during the run. Down by the park, 5k route.

Avg pace = 8:27/mi
Total distance = 3.23 mi
Elapsed moving time = 27:20
Avg heartrate = 129 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 9

Showered and got my stuff together for heading downtown. Saw Arnold Dizon on the bus, he works in the Federal Building and takes this bus all the time. The trial went to juror instructions and then final arguments before being submitted to the jury in the afternoon. We deliberated for a while before breaking at 4:15. Ann had texted me about attending a free swing dance class with live swing music at the Central Library, so that was the plan I was working on. As soon as I got out of the courthouse I texted her, she was surprised to learn that this event was on Monday, not Tuesday, as she had thought. She decided to drive downtown and park the Central Library, so I walked across downtown and met her there. I got there ahead of her and waited for a while until she showed up. Not the greatest part of town. We got snacks at a nearby 7-Eleven and then went up to the roof of the Central Library where the event was happening. When we got there, early to avoid crowds, there were very few people there, and I was a little concerned that the turnout would be uncomfortably low. No worry there, by the time it was supposed to start there were a lot of people. The two instructors had us do a little simple movement to warm up, then tried to teach us the Lindy Hop, along with a couple of easy variations. I was pretty hopeless at the start and couldn't get the variations even after working on it for a while. So we just focused on getting the initial steps and rhythm right. The dance was supposed to be set up to change partners frequently, but we weren't feeling comfortable enough to do that. Thankfully, Ann didn't make us stay until the end, as we left around 7:30. Was kinda fun but daunting to think about working hard to get better at dancing. Drive home was uneventful, not any traffic to speak of, and the rest of the evening was quiet.
