Had a good night's rest, woke up around 5:15 and started getting ready for an early bike ride. Emptied the dishwasher, did a few dishes, then I got dressed. I had planned on rolling by 6:00 but got a little delayed and started shortly after. I had been updating my blog and looking at posts from 2025,when I was riding faster in general, so I decided to push harder on this ride than I have been. Rode down by the park and then up Pomerado Rd, again working harder on the climbing parts. I stayed on it to the top of the hill, and I rode just about as hard as I could. Finished about 30 seconds off my PR, but I was happy with the result. I stayed on Pomerado Rd down to Kearny Villa Rd and turned left there. Again, I kept the effort level high on this basically flat segment to Ruffin Rd, continuing straight until turning right on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. I stopped at Sunny Donuts for a couple of donuts and a coffee. After I resumed riding, I could feel the effects of the caffeine. Over to Kearny Villa Rd, turning right and riding to the turn to stay on that road. Back by the MCAS, trying to keep pedaling hard. I stayed on it until it turned into Black Mountain Rd, then turned right on Carroll Canyon Rd. I started slowing down here as I climbed up to Scripps Ranch Blvd and took it to Erma Rd, pushing hard on that little climb and keeping the pressure on for the descent and ride over to the intersection with Scripps-Poway Pkwy. Set a couple of PRs here, then I climbed up to Poway Rd. I got onto the time trail route and followed it to CdN, having to turn my brain off to keep pushing up those little climbs. I stayed on this road until turning right onto Camino San Bernardo, taking it over to RB Rd. Home the normal way via W Bernardo Dr, not a lot of push left in my legs, but I used some more on the last little climb. Felt okay about the effort level on this ride, especially the fact that my legs weren't sore at the end. I noticed at the end that my front tire was soft, maybe my patch didn't hold.

I swapped out the inner tube on my front wheel, had a little time to relax before getting ready to meet Howard and Yi-Hua at Mama Cella's for lunch at 11:30. They talked extensively about their month-long trip to Japan, sounded like they had a great time and were quite busy. I got home and looked at my camping list to decide what to get for food and drink, then I went to a coue of stores and got supplies, including stuff for a picnic at Balboa Park before the show at The Old Globe. We left a little before 5:00, Ann drove us down there in heavy traffic near downtown while I caught up on blogging as a welcome alternative to driving. The show we saw, North by Northwest, was a very clever adaptation of the Alfred Hitchcock story, witty and extremely well staged. This theater really knows how to stage their productions. Acting was a little uneven, but the play was great. I drove us home, and that was the day.
