12-07-2023 Ride

Went for an early morning walk of about an hour, then to the WWC for a swim, 2250 yds in 48 min.  Last 250 yds were freestyle with no snorkel.  Ann went to the beach with Kay and Christine Thompson, who was visiting from Reno.  So I took a casual ride over to the Escondido library to pick up The Hail Mary Project, by Andy Weir, which is Emily's pick for this month's family book club.  I've read this book before but didn't remember much of it until I started reading it again, and it's coming back to me now.  It's about a PhD school teacher who ends up on a space ship to Tau Ceti in an attempt to save the human race from the effects that an alien lifeform, the Astrophage, is having on reducing the power output of the sun.  It's a page-turner even the second time around.

The ride I did took me over the freeway and to BVP, following the old route to yoga at church and including the little cuts through the neighborhood near Ash St to get to Grand Ave.  After I got the book at the library, I rode back to Grand Ave and then over to Centre City Pkwy.  Down to Citracado Ave and then Escondido Blvd down to the bike trail in Kit Carson Park, which I took all the way to the entrance by the ballfields.  Then I took BVP until cutting over to take the bike path to the pedestrian bridge across Lake Hodges, and home the normal way from there.  No big effort on this ride, just didn't feel the energy for it, and I was carrying some weight in my backpack.
