12-27-2023 Entry

Went for a walk for an hour in the morning and talked with Ann when I got home about Christmas.  She was upset about how it made the others feel, but my response was that I couldn't be authentic and happy during the gift opening.  We're in a better spot now after having talked.  Next year, will need to de-stress the holiday for her, she did too much shopping and cooking around the holiday and it was overall stressful.  And I'll need to help more with cooking and make the cooking/cleaning more communal with the kids.  Then I went for a swim, 2500 yds with standard protocol that included 20 lengths at the end freestyle and without snorkel.  Finished in about 52 min.  Later, I had lunch with Earl Guy at Lourdes Mexican Restaurant, I paid so it's his turn next time.  We talked about the future of religion (analogy to the future of libraries), and I introduced a topic for next time, AI and whether its development is ultimately "good" or "bad".  Bought some picture frames at the Escondido Thrift Store for the Bisikleta "awards" to put in the garage.  Then in the early evening, I met Emily at the house in Scripps Ranch where she is pet sitting, to walk the dogs (Odie and Jerry) and to open the presents that she and Caleb got me (all-weather cycling booties, beer/cheese tasting, and a bookmark with cross-stitch on it.  I also booked my travel to Houston in the fourth week of January and let the brothers know.  Finally, I started a library book on quantum computing:

Quantum Supremacy, eBookHow the Quantum Computer Revolution Will Change Everything
