Walk in the early morning, it had been a while since I walked in the dark for about a little less than an hour. I was worried that the rain would come sooner than it actually did (it started in the evening, later than forecast), that's why I went out early. Then it was a solo ride over to the Ted Williams Park n Ride, taking Azucar Way up to Duenda Rd, then over to Bernardo Heights Pkwy and up to Paseo Lucido. Down Carmel Mountain Rd to Rancho Carmel Dr and then to meet John. We rode back to the 56 bike path and took it up to the Salmon River Rd exit, riding over to Paseo Montalban and then to Black Mountain Rd. Then it was up to Carmel Valley Rd, turning left there and riding down to Camino del Sur. Rode back up to Four Gee Rd, turning left there and doing the reverse ride through the 4S Ranch neighborhood that goes up by the water tower. Back to RB Rd, taking it through town and into Poway, at which point we followed the old time trial route back to our meet-up point. I took most of the ride at fairly modest pace, not too fast on the climb up Espola Rd to Poway Rd. We hit every single light riding down Poway Rd, so we made good elapsed time there. On the ride back home, I followed the new time trial route. Legs felt fine at the end, but I was tired from the early start to the day. Weather held out splendidly, just about ideal riding conditions for the most part.
Avg speed = 15.5 mph. Total mileage = 43.5 mi
Avg power = 131 W. Weighted avg power = 157 W
Total elevation gain = 2700'
Avg heartrate = 125 bpm
Quiet rest of the day. I did some cleaning, online Christmas shopping, reading, watched some TV while Ann went for an orthopedic consult for her right shoulder (and got a cortisone shot), then had hot pot with Emily.
