06-05-2024 Ride

Was originally planning on riding with John, but he came down with the flu and couldn't go. So I went solo, heading over to W Bernardo Dr and riding up to RB Rd. Turned right and took it up to Camino San Bernardo, turning left there and taking it over to Dove Canyon Rd. Rode down to Carmel Valley Rd, turning right and taking the two little climbs up to Black Mountain Rd. I kept on Carmel Valley Rd to Camino del Sur, turning left there and riding over to the 56 bike path. At this point, I was just riding below tempo but not consistently in Zone 2. All the way down the bike path to Sorrento Valley Rd, then over to Carmel Valley Rd. I rode up to the coast, turning left and taking the inside route up Torrey Pines. Here, I just didn't have any real push in my legs, so I gritted it out. Got to the top and rode down the outside route, then repeated this one more time. After the second time down the hill, I kept going, riding back to Carmel Valley Rd and turning on Sorrento Valley Rd. On a whim, I kept going on the trail, which took me over to Carmel Mountain Rd (near Mom's), where I turned left and rode up to El Camino Real. A right turn there, and some more gentle climbing up to Carmel Country Rd, where I turned left and rode back down to the 56 bike path. I took this descent at full speed, and it was exhilarating, a little scary. Back up to Carmel Valley Rd, where I turned left and rode, now noticeably slower, up to Camino del Sur. Left turn there, then home the old normal way using RB Rd and W Bernardo Dr. It was a weird day, I felt okay but not motivated to go either fast or try and stay in Zone 2 consistently.

Avg speed = 15.8 mph. Total mileage = 46.7 mi
Avg power = 141 W. Weighted avg power = 175 W
Total elevation gain = 3170'
Avg heartrate = 119 (Coospo), 134 bpm (Fitbit, anomalously high)

I had my volunteer shift at the hospital in the afternoon. No mistakes this time. I met a new Med Tech (I think that's what she is), Anna. I kept busy with a lot of room cleans, also talked to a number of visitors in the rooms with the patients. Not much other than that. Home, via Sprouts, as I should be eating more fruit and less junk food snacks. It was a quiet evening, although I ate too many snacks while watching TV later in the evening and had some indigestion on the following morning.
