Got up and got ready for my morning volunteer shift at the hospital, having switched because of the baseball game on Wednesday afternoon. I remembered my card this time but forgot to bring a mask, so I picked one up at the front desk. Arrived around 8:15, and when I got into the ED it was really quiet, just a couple of rooms in the main section occupied. There were some folks in the back rooms as well, but they didn't need much assistance. As the morning progressed, the rooms gradually filled up with patients. I got busier later, talked to some nice folks who were in the rooms and did a fair amount of cleaning. Met two new (to me) nurses, Lyn and Eric, and I introduced myself to Mary, who works in the ED admin/billing office. Overall, the time passed fairly quickly. I stayed a bit late to help one of the patients to his car and clean the room afterward. Had some lunch after I got home, and later in the afternoon I tackled trimming the bushes in the front side yard, which were really overgrown. In the evening, I rode over to Rob's place to meet him for a short bike ride. Through the neighborhood to Matinal Rd, then over to W Bernardo Dr to get to RB Rd. Right on Bernardo Center Dr, then I took Bernardo Heights Pkwy to Paseo Lucido, then met him by his garage. He had just gotten his bike back that day, it looked in good shape. We headed back to Paseo Lucido, turning left and down to Bernardo Heights Pkwy, where we turned right and rode down to Pomerado Rd. Left there, then a right onto Stone Canyon Rd, taking it up until it teed into Martincoit Rd. Rob did pretty well on the climbs, and there were some short steep sections to navigate. He was slower but didn't conk out. Left at the tee, then down the hill to Rostrata Rd, turning right and then left onto Orchard Bend Rd, which took us to Espola Rd. We turned right and rode just a little bit until we turned around at Bridlewood Rd. From there, it was Espola Rd back to Pomerado Rd, left there, then back to Bernardo Heights Pkwy, retracing our route to his garage from there. He did fine on this short ride, was more cautious than usual, but that is to be expected. It was good to see him out on the road again, more healing needed and work to be done to get back into top cycling shape. I rode home the same way I came over until I got to RB Rd, where I continued on Bernardo Center Dr to Duenda Rd and home from there.
