06-09-2024 Hike/Ride

Woke up and went for an early morning hike around the neighborhood, wearing my camping backpack containing two gallons of water. Shoulders held up well on the 2.5 mile hike, but I could feel the weight on them. More practice needed to toughen them up. Then I had some breakfast and got ready for an easy bike ride. Headed down by the park and then over to Highland Valley Rd, taking it through the flats and up the beginning of the first climb before turning around and riding back. I had almost gotten to Pomerado Rd when Rob Fogarty, riding the other way on his mountain bike, called out to me. So I turned around and rode along the flats again, with him, before turning around and riding back solo at fairly high speed. Left on Pomerado Rd and up to Higa Pl, turning right there and riding through the retired folks neighborhood to get to Bernardo Center Dr. I turned left there and rode up the hill by HP, turning right on W Bernardo Dr and finishing the ride via the usual route.

Avg speed = 16.2 mph. Total mileage = 20.6 mi
Avg power = 137 W. Weighted avg power = 160 W
Total elevation gain = 1060'
Avg heartrate = 129 bpm (Fitbit, reading high)

I cleaned up a little bit of the kitchen afterwards, then relaxed for a while before lunch. In the afternoon, we had McCaslin Family Book Club to discuss The Three Body Problem. Everybody got something out of reading the book and found that, near the end, it was more of a page turner. Then, we went over to the WWC to spend time with Perse Bolano and his family and friends celebrating his son Troy's HS graduation. Other Bisikleta folks were there, so that's who we hung out with. After we got back, I planted the last two plants to go into the wood chip beds.
