Woke up (<>) and got ready for my swim. Headed over to the WWC, where I met Avi, who joined me for the first time. Maybe because he was there, I swam faster than usual, although I paused between the segments, and that probably helped. Finished with perhaps the fastest time for the 2000 yd protocol that I've had. He gave me some pointers about how to improve my time, the main ones being to focus on longer, more efficient strokes (aiming for 20 strokes to go the length of the pool), speed training (45 seconds for a 50, followed by 15 seconds of rest), keeping my legs up near the top of the water (less drag). That gives me something to work with, we'll see if it helps reduce my times. Then I headed home and helped clean the house for Kathy's and Heather's visit. I deep-cleaned the refrigerator, which took about an hour. Then I cleaned the kitchen surfaces and wet-mopped the downstairs. I also cleaned the dust out of the floor fan and fixed the screen in Emily's room. After these tasks, I set about waxing my bike chain, which I had cleaned the previous day. The waxing went fine, although it took longer for the wax to melt than I thought it would (the crock pot worked). After the waxing, I spent some time freeing up the links and cleaning the front chainrings (it looks like they can be removed and replaced after all, I'll probably have to do this due to wear in the gear teeth). Then I put the chain on and gave it a test ride. The chain jumped on a number of gears in the back, wasn't sure why, but it's probably because the links aren't moving freely enough. I did check to make sure that the rear cassette was well seated on the hub, and it was. So I put my old chain on the bike and will work on freeing up the links some more before giving it another go. Overall, it was frustrating. Not sure if chain waxing is for me (it kinda reminds me of switching to tubeless), but I'll work with Blair on Tuesday to see if we can fix the kinks.
