Slept okay, woke up early and read a little bit before getting up (<>). I didn't have a lot of time before getting ready to go to the WWC for a swim. Headed over there on an absolutely beautiful morning, no clouds in the sky and just the right temperature. This day was the first day that they switched to summer hours, and I didn't know it until I got there and the gates were open. Luckily, most others also didn't realize it, so I had the pool to myself at the start and was able to keep a lane all the time. Pool water temperature was a little brisk, but I warmed up fairly quickly. I ended up swimming 2050 yds uninterrupted for the first time in a while, felt okay and, surprisingly, my last 500 was faster than the third one. Here are the splits for the 4 500s and the last 50: 9:31, 9:38, 9:53, 9:45, 0:55. When I got home, I made eggs and toast for breakfast, then went out into the front yard for another go at the pea gravel path. This time, I finished sifting all the pebbles out, still need to wash them off and put them back on the path, but that's easier than the first step. Ate a light lunch, then got ready for an afternoon bike ride to meet Marc Lee over by the CMR shopping center. Marc is one of the riders who will be participating in the August 2 charity ride, also a former HP'er. I rode over to meet him by Scripps Clinic, taking the normal way to Bernardo Center Dr and then heading up Bernardo Heights Pkwy to Paseo Lucido and then to Carmel Mountain Rd. He had finished up with the doc when I got to the clinic, so my timing was good. We rode from there over to the Starbuck's by Trader Joe's, and he bought me a coffee there. We chatted for a while about HP, apparently he was deep in with the Tuesday/Thursday riders. He rode a lot with Dan Caputo and knows Mark Vaughn, Andy Seitz, and Avi, among some other folks I know. After the coffee we took Highland Ranch Rd over to Ted Williams Pkwy and then down to Sabre Springs Pkwy, at a fairly easy pace. Followed it out to the bike path that eventually runs parallel to I-15 on the east side and took it to Erma Rd to get up to Scripps Ranch Blvd. Turned right there and took it to Carroll Canyon Rd and then down to Maya Linda Rd, where he kept going toward Clairemont Mesa and I turned around to start heading back. I rode back up to the turn for taking Scripps Ranch Blvd over to Pomerado Rd. A gradual climb there, and when I got onto Pomerado Rd I had a nice tailwind helping me up the hill. It was warm but not too uncomfortable. The downhill was fun, although I pumped the brakes several times to keep my speed under control. From there, it was the usual way back, again benefiting from a tailwind on the slight climb up to the hospital. Took Bernardo Center Dr route home.

When I got there, Ann was still at Mah-Jongg, so I watched some TV. I talked to Mom before dinner and expressed my concern about her not having coverage on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She really didn't want to address the risk, so she changed the subject. Generally a good conversation, she is in a better mood these days, now that she is taking her meds again and trying to eat a little bit more. Our Big Agnes tent body replacement arrived, so after dinner I set it up in the back yard to make sure everything was as it should be. All okay, which is great. Then we talked to Pat about a planned trip to Europe in September, where we will do sightseeing, bike riding, and wine and food tasting.
