Woke up around 6:30 after waking up earlier but getting back to sleep. I didn't make the mistake of eating breakfast before my swim, headed over to the WWC to be there when it opened. It's pretty busy now that we are in summer months. I saw Blaine there for the first time in a long time, he looks well, has been swimming later in the day. Needed to get some distance in, in preparation for an ocean swim at La Jolla Cove on Wednesday morning with Charlie and his friend Dave. I ended up swimming 2100 yds, lost count on the second and fourth 500s. Here are the splits for the four 500s and the last 100: 9:30, 9:39, 9:46, 9:44, 1:51. I think I am getting closer to syncing the splits that I measure using the camera with the ones from my watch, but this only works if I pause and finish the workout fairly quickly. Those added seconds are included in the Strava moving time, which is unfortunate. The heartrate data are still questionable but useful to analyze. My heartrate climbed steadily in the first 500, then stabilized for the second 500 before starting to climb gradually in the last 100, with a sharper increase right near the end of the workout. I need to put in more distance swims, including going beyond 2000 yds, which is going to be a challenge until I get used to the longer distances. My stroke count was also noticeably higher to me in the last 500, where I couldn't consistently get to 20 strokes/length. Could feel the effects of the workout in my shoulders later on. I had breakfast when I got home, then went out and, after watching a couple of videos, attempted to sharpen my new chainsaw chain. Fingers crossed that it improves the cutting performance. Later in the morning, I went out behind the fence and worked on cutting back another sumac stump while it was in the shade. I also cut back yet another stump on the yard side of the fence. Still more work to be done. After the sumac will come the pepper tree stumps. Watched some TV in the early afternoon and had a short nap, then I went for or an hour-long walk to get most of my steps in. Walked a Ross the freeway and around the neighborhoods over there before walking back. After dinner, I had to talk myself into going for a ride. Initially planned on a relatively flat route, heading down by the park, where I saw a coyote crossing the road into the park. Ended up riding out Highland Valley Rd and up to the turnoff for Cordiano Winery. I tried to stay in the saddle for as much as possible, only getting out when it was really steep. Worked up a sweat, so it felt good on the downhill return. Retracted my route home and had a quiet rest of the evening.
