06-21-2025 Ride

Slept pretty well after having coffee the previous day (<!>). I had plenty of time to get ready for the Bisikleta ride, including catching up on blogging. Drove over to the starting point to reduce my miles and effort. It was a small group, a number of other riders were riding with SDBC. Just Rob, Charlie, and Andy. Straightforward route, down to San Dieguito Rd and then the normal way down to PCH. Charlie split from us there to get more miles in, and we turned left to ride through Del Mar to Carmel Valley Rd. A short break at the head of the 56 bike path before heading back via Carmel Valley Rd. Was taking it easy and still got out in front of Andy. We turned on Dove Canyon Rd and rode up to Dove Creek Rd, taking it to 4S Ranch Pkwy. We rode up to Camino San Bernardo and turned there to get to Nicole Ridge Rd. Back to Paseo del Sur via Potomac Ridge Rd, then to the Target. Was a nice ride, a little chilly at the start but fine once I got warmed up.

Avg speed = 15.5 mph. Total mileage = 29.4 mi
Avg power = 126 W. Weighted avg power = 146 W
Total elevation gain = 1460'
Avg heartrate = 111 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 25
Training Load = 95
Intensity = 66%

My intention here was to get some miles in but not to push myself, knowing that I had a race the following day. The rest of the day was spent lounging around the house for the most part. I did need to get my steps in, so in the mid-afternoon I hiked on the trails around Lake Hodges, taking an alternate way back that had me climbing more than I had expected, but getting some nice views in at the top of the hike. Ended up hiking for about 75 minutes. Evening was quiet, I spent some time making a list of things to take for a triathlon race and packing my gear up. I also decided to ride my Fuji bike the following day, living with the chain and bottom bracket noise to have the benefit of the aero bars.
