06-12-2025 Swim/Walk

Woke up in the night with some heartburn, too much food the previous evening, including sweets when I got home from happy hour with Caleb and Emily. I got back to sleep and felt better in the morning (<>). Rushed to get ready for a swim at the WWC and headed over there on a typical June Gloom day. I ended up having the entire pool to myself for my 1600 yd swim. Swim felt okay, but my Amazfit watch didn't record the workout, for an unknown reason. I'll need to keep working on how to start it and how to check progress during a swim workout. I had brought my action camera as well, so I was able to track distance and splits. Here they are for the 3 500s and the last 100: 9:18, 9:31, 9:30, 1:54. I hadn't been swimming uninterrupted distances in a while, and I could definitely tell. Was happy, though, that my last 500 was at the same pace as my second one. Ate some breakfast when I got home, then I changed out the tires (and the rear inner tube) on my Canyon bike with new ones I got in the mail. During the day, I spent some time behind our backyard fence cutting away the areas on the sumac stumps where shoots have been forming. This will be a long-term task, with the eventual goal of not having any exposed areas where shoots come up. More work to do in this latest iteration. Then I spent some time working on the shifting for my Fuji bike. Initial adjustment to access all of the gears on the rear cassette was pretty easy, then it was more challenging to get the front derailleur fully operational, with easy shifting up and down as well as no rubbing of the chain or the chainring on the derailleur itself. I think I got it pretty close before I had to stop and head over to Phil's BBQ for an HP happy hour that Avi is trying to regularize. Saw Silke, Avi, Bill and Britt Cristensen, Oliver Woitke, and Fereshteh. Chris Tanner and his wife Rebecca showed up as well, I hadn't seen Chris in a really long time. Was nice, but I don't think I will go there every week. When I got home, I called Ross to check in on how he is doing as well as to get his assessment of Mom's current condition. Seems to me like she is slipping a little bit mentally, he generally agreed. No major warning signs, but for sure something to watch more carefully. I ate a light dinner after the call, then went out for a walk to get my steps in for the day. On the walk, I called Ben and we talked for 15 minutes or so. He gets amped up when reading some of the group texts, and I had to talk him down a little bit. Finished the walk and watched some TV to relax in the evening.
